We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr Shawon Gullette ND, I.A.T and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr Shawon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My process behind opening my Trichology clinic was because I realized that around 30 million women in the United States go through the difficult experience of hair loss. Unfortunately, as women, it deeply affects our sense of femininity. When we face alopecia or other hair loss conditions, it impacts not only our self-esteem but also our relationships, work life, and overall happiness, often leading to depression. Adding to this, there are women who remain undiagnosed for a long time, only to discover that their hair follicles have become damaged beyond repair, resulting in permanent hair loss. It’s disheartening that no other profession focuses on providing solutions for hair and scalp disorders and diseases.
That’s why I decided to start my Trichology clinic – to address this problem and fulfill a crucial need for women who are struggling with hair loss. My aim is to provide a friendly and supportive environment where women can find effective solutions and regain their confidence.

What should our readers know about your business?
“I absolutely adore my work! The satisfaction I receive from helping women regain their confidence by stabilizing hair growth is truly incredible. What makes my business stand out is my unwavering commitment to core values such as Integrity, Innovation, Honesty, and Service. I constantly strive to expand my knowledge and expertise, treating each patient as if it’s my very first encounter with that specific type of hair loss. I believe in taking a holistic approach to identify the root cause of hair loss by considering the overall health of the body. Starting this business was no easy feat, especially since trichology was a relatively unknown term fifteen years ago. My primary objective was to educate and inform my community about this field. Fast forward to today, I am still actively conducting educational initiatives, with referrals pouring in from dermatologists and medical professionals nationwide. Throughout this journey, I’ve learned essential lessons such as the importance of creating and adhering to systematic approaches, staying faithful to your brand, fearlessly embracing a leadership role in your community, and never ceasing to learn.
Now, what do I want the world to know?

What I want the world to know about my story and brand is that Trichology is my life. It’s not just a profession for me; it’s my calling. My sole purpose is to be an advocate for anyone going through the struggles of hair loss. I aim to pave new paths and offer support to those facing this challenge. To embrace this journey and find the solutions that bring back confidence and happiness!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting town and I wanted to give them the most amazing experience ever, we would kick off the morning by heading to Red Berries for a scrumptious breakfast board and mimosas. Then, we would get our creative juices flowing at Picture Perfect Paint Parties with a fun and artsy girlfriend paint and sip session. Of course, no day would be complete without some retail therapy, so we would hit up the Greene for a fantastic shopping spree. To add a bit of excitement to our day, we would swing by On Par for some delightful golf fun.
As the day progresses, we would make our way to the Oregon, where I would introduce my friend to my all-time favorite cocktail at Salar. To satisfy our hunger, we would wrap up the day with a mouthwatering dinner at Kitchen Corner Restaurant.
Now, if our adventure took us to the vibrant city of Chicago, our itinerary would take a whole new twist. It would be filled with endless shopping opportunities, fabulous live music performances, and mesmerizing art galleries. We would immerse ourselves in the energetic atmosphere and create wonderful memories together.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a great deal of my success to the International Association of Trichologist. Their exceptional educational program and groundbreaking research provided me with a fantastic foundation and continue to assist countless trichologists worldwide. This nationally recognized program delivers top-notch education and support, being one of the pioneering trichology programs established in California back in 1974. It’s worth mentioning that the Trichology course was created at the University of Southern California by the esteemed trichologist, David Salinger. Their unwavering dedication deserves the utmost recognition!
