Meet Dunna | Music Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dunna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dunna, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I want to be a Billboard charting, certified platinum music producer. I want to have had and continue to have opportunities to work with other incredibly talented musicians and create things that we are very proud of. I want to be part of a movement, to be a name that is brought up in conversations about a certain era of music. Overall, I want to be able to sit back and find comfort in the fact that I was able to make music for people to enjoy. Obviously I want to see the personal success that musicians can attain, but the real goal is and always will be to make music that evokes for others the same feeling that I get when hearing a great song for the first time. If I can say that I succeeded in doing that, then I can truthfully say that I did what I set out to do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create modern music. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of what music can be in the future while always implementing what has made music great in the past. What separates me from other music producers is what separates everybody within the music industry: a unique perspective on what good music sounds like. As a recent college graduate, music production transformed from a hobby to a occupation only a few months ago. Making my own music on the outside of the industry looking in for so many years has allowed me to develop a personalized style that can and will immediately stand out. I primarily make hip hop beats – the genre that has taken over my generation and has been my favorite since I was young – but my musical range spans over any genre and I am excited to see what new pockets of music I am attracted to in the future. Being so new to an unconventional career, I have already been met with many challenges and expect many more to come with time. The challenge I am most focused on overcoming is getting my name out within the industry. Going from a producer who makes his own music for himself to enjoy to a producer that respected artists throughout the music industry call on to create with. I know my journey will be far from easy, but I also know that it will be worth it, because I love creating great music. I am blessed to be in my position, to face both triumph and tribulation in pursuit of my passion, knowing God will lead me right where I need to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am uniquely unequipped to answer this question on account of the fact that I just moved to the Cleveland area recently and my intense focus on my career has not allowed me to get out as much as I’d like. With that being said, I would bring my best friend to any of the golf courses around the area, as each and everyone I have played has been beautiful. Additionally I would bring them to eat at one of the many restaurants with a great view of the water. I would also make sure that my friend and I would be at each of these places during the sunset, as the Cleveland sunsets are among the best I have ever seen and I look forward to them each day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents deserve a shoutout for always giving me the confidence and support I need to pursue what I love. Through my many passions growing up, the one constant was my parents being there and sacrificing whatever they had to so that I could follow them. They instilled an unwavering belief in myself through their own love and confidence in me, gave me a strong base of morals, and constantly inspired me with their hardworking nature. Not every lesson they taught was easy to hear but I am grateful for each of them. I am the man I am today because of my parents and I push forward confidently knowing that they will always have my back.
