We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Kloss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I lost my job the day Ohio went into lock down during the pandemic. I decided the moment it happened that I would never work for anyone else, ever again. I have been on a mission to find my purpose, and create a business that brought my customers what they need and brought me joy. I had no other purpose. I have been trying all kind s of things ever since. I started with health coaching, moved into virtual yoga, created a brick and mortar yoga studio inside a plant shop and the evolution continues as I am now going into peoples homes and helping them with their houseplant!

I think the bottom line of the process is that I am obsessed with finding the intersection of my passion/purpose and what is most needed by the people I am here to serve!

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is called Flows & Grows for so so so many reasons. Firstly because in its current form we are a yoga studio (flows) inside a plant shop (grows)… but on a far deeper level, This is a business that is flowing through growth and encouraging others to do the same. I believe that I am where I am with this business currently because I have been unafraid to fall directly on my face and fail right in front of everyone – the vulnerability I share in this process is not a mistake, its a choice. Life, especially as a female entrepreneur in the age of social media can be really lonely. People dont take risks because they are scared and they don’t want to get it wrong.

Yoga teaches you to embrace practice. To find your limits and treat yourself with grace as you learn what those limits are. It teaches you to not be tied to the outcome, but rather be tied to the journey of becoming and learning and figuring things out.

By committing to that mindset all challenges can be overcome with curiosity and commitment to the practice of growth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the Tremont and Ohio City neighborhoods – shopping and eating as you go. I love Mentor Headlands for a beach day in the summer. All the metro parks scattered throughout Cleveland are musts. I love all our local coffee shops, there are so many – Coffee Therapy is new in Westlake and its just the best little spot! I love Rising Star and Roasted – too many to list! I am a huge Browns fan and think Sundays in the fall in the Muni parking lot is some of the most fun there is to be had.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been supported endlessly by so many people. Its been one of the greatest parts of my journey – all the people that have shown up along the way. But honestly, Its my husband that deserves the biggest shoutout… Being married is not easy under some of the best circumstances, let alone when you wife decides, during a global pandemic, to just dump her fairly successful and lucrative career for the absolute unknown.

But he has been incredible. He has stepped up in every supportive way there is. He has worked harder and become more successful in his own career… He has allowed me to melt down and fall apart and offer nothing but encouragement. He has believed in me non-stop. He shares everything I do with everyone he knows. I can feel his pride in the things I have created and he has never stopped showing me how much he loves me. He’s pretty great, I dont know how I got so lucky.
