We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Swinderman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Film has been such and important part of my life and something that had taught me about so much more than making movies. I’ve learned about history, teamwork, technology, diversity and creativity. I wanted to start a program where I could pass on those things to kids who were as passionate as I was and am.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an Emmy nominated and award winning film and tv producer. My two feature films have earned critical praise and have been seen across the globe both theatrically and on streaming services such as Apple TV, Amazon , Hulu and Tubi. My company Anhedonia Pictures has practically invented a way of producing indie films that draw A-List talent without the need for a million dollar budget. We love telling character driven stories that use clever dialogue vs. excessive CGI. And we’ve taken the lessons we’ve learned and applied them to Young Filmmakers Academy where we produce award winning films with kids and teens on minuscule budgets.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a proud Cleveland native there are so many areas to showcase and brag about, The Metroparks offer the best nature has to offer, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is also a jewel. We have one of the oldest theaters in the world playing Broadway’s biggest hits. There are parts of University Circle that would make you swear you were in Paris. And the food is second to none. I think I’d just take them on a Cleveland appreciation tour.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Hortencia deserves more than a shoutout. She has been with me since Young Filmmakers Academy’s inception. She the behind the scenes backbone of the organization. She is beyond supportive, patient and understanding. I couldn’t have created such a well respected organization without her.
