Meet Erin Eurenius | Estate Planning & Certified Elder Law Attorney

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Eurenius and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Often, I find that many outsiders to the legal industry are not familiar with the specializations that are available for our profession. We widely recognize that for medical issues, you find a specialist in the area. The thought of going to a general practitioner for a specific heart issue seems absurd. The same goes for the law. My practice focuses solely on estate planning and elder law. I assist any adult over the age of 18 with their needs for the appropriate legal documents for estate planning at their stage of life. Having a well-thought-out estate plan can make a huge difference for the people you leave behind. I often say that estate planning is the ultimate love letter. The elder law focus means that I assist older adults and their families with a wide array of issues including long-term care planning for Medicaid and VA, asset protection, guardianship/capacity issues, and preparation of legal documents. Elder law attorneys can be such a great resource for many families who are caring for an older adult or a loved one with a disability. Many times, families are not aware that such a resource even exists. In order to further set myself apart, I took additional exams to become a Certified Elder Law Attorney through the National Elder Law Foundation. I am also an Ohio State Bar Association Certified Specialist in Elder Law. I encourage anyone seeking legal assistance to look for an attorney who can assist you with your specific issues.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I envisioned my own practice, I wanted to create an environment where my own grandma would feel comfortable to come and speak with an attorney. My grandmother was the inspiration for practicing in this area of the law. She was diagnosed with dementia while I was in high school. I learned how difficult it is to be a caregiver. She later had a stroke and my family experienced how tough it can get when there are no proper legal documents in place. She ultimately spent about seven and a half years in a skilled nursing facility. I know the stress that my clients are under. By creating my own practice, I wanted to focus on educating the public so that they might have an easier time if their loved one needs assistance. I also wanted to create an environment where someone would not feel intimidated or uncomfortable with asking questions. I pride myself on trying to create new and innovative ways to share information about estate planning without it being overwhelming or complicated.
Creating my own business has been a learning experience. I’ve been lucky enough to have the support of friends, family, and my network. I attended Padua Franciscan High School. The alumni network has been exceptional and I’m so appreciative of their support. I’ve learned to rely on others and ask for help when I need it. As someone who is very independent, it is sometimes tough to reach out, but in order to continue to grow my business I know that I need to depend on others. I’m grateful for my professional partners who refer business to me. I’m forever thankful for my exceptional clients who are willing to share my contact information and spread the word about my business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Cleveland area has many exceptional places to visit. I would take a visitor to Playhouse Square to see a production. I would most definitely include visiting the Cleveland Metroparks Reservations. I love the Rocky River reservation and the Millstream reservation. I would take them to see the Cleveland Zoo. I started playing hockey as an adult, so I would take them to see a hockey game. I adore ice cream, so we would be visiting Honey Hut, East Coast Custard, Malley’s, and Mitchell’s ice cream. I also love the local tea shops like Miss Molly’s and Miss Hickory’s. I think that the Cleveland area is great because you’re never far from visiting Sandusky or Columbus and have incredible day trips.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family deserves the shoutout for sure. They are the people who listen to me when I’m frustrated. They celebrate my wins. They always have my back. They’ll stuff envelopes when I need a little extra office help. They packed and moved boxes when I moved my office. I’m forever grateful for their support.
