We had the good fortune of connecting with Eryn Gilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eryn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is a part of life, there is no avoiding it so instead I lean into it. I like to think of new big ideas that do require a lot of risk. I’ve had several ideas that have completely failed and several ideas that have been majorly successful. I wouldn’t have had the successes if I hadn’t first had the failures.
What should our readers know about your business?
We know that every single dollar you spend at a small business makes a huge difference and every dollar a small business makes needs to be spent thoughtfully which is why we are so passionate about providing them with quality work. EGC Marketing is special because we put our heart into everything we do. We want our clients to succeed as much as they do, we are their biggest cheerleader and will shout them from the rooftops.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned in business to date is to protect your boundaries. If you know what they are stand firm in them, don’t bend. It might not feel like much the first time but it’s a slippery slope and soon you’ll find yourself with a case of burnout because you’re not protecting what matters most to you. You can’t do it all and that’s okay.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is my favorite hobby – recommending places to explore in Columbus. 🙂
Stay – My favorite place to staycation is Le Méridien Columbus, The Joseph and I would suggest it to every out of town friend who is visiting. If you stay there (or even if you don’t) you have to get a massage in their spa.
Eat – SO MANY OPTIONS!!! I can’t possibly name all of my favorites but I’ll include a few.
For brunch and breakfast – Katalina’s, Basic Biscuits, and Parable Cafe.
Dinner – The Pearl, Valentina’s, and Cap City is a family favorite.
Lunch – Gallo’s in the Dublin North Market is my favorite pizza and we also love Hot Chicken Takeover.
Visit – This list would vary based on who is visiting and if there are kids too but a few good spots I think everyone should check out…Good Dae Craft School, Wild Cat Gift + Party, Quarry Trails Metro Park, Land Grant, Easton, and Franklin Park Conservatory
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thinking about my very first client and every client since – they’ve each taught me something that still to this day has an impact on how I run my business. I am so thankful for every single one of them.
My husband is my number one fan and deserves a shoutout in my story. I will always be so thankful for his support from day one when it was just a wild idea and everyone else told me it would never work. He never doubted me. Fast forward to the days I was sure I wanted to give up everything, he never let me give up on myself and I love him for it. He believed in me when I couldn’t and pushed me when I needed it. So thankful 🙂
