We had the good fortune of connecting with Faith Luv and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Faith, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic/creative career because I wanted to pursue something where it didn’t feel like work. I wanted to do something that allowed me to be financially secure, but still allow me to do what makes me happy. My love for music runs so deep, so deep that honestly I would do it for free! Over the years, I’ve healed through some of my greatest trials just from writing and telling my story, but I also feel how I help other people heal as well. Being a creative just feels right and honestly, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Something I feel stands out about my artistry is my ability to appeal my music to different sounds and cultures. I have been surrounded by music my whole life from both my mom and dad side of the family. My father is Jamaican and he’s just a really big music head. I always listened to a lot of Caribbean music with him and hip-hop. My mom’s side musical taste is very diverse. From a child, I was always surrounded by gospel music because I grew up in church. I grew up singing in the choir, praise dancing, I even sung in the choir at my high school. The late pastor at my church was my great grandfather so a lot of my family members went to the same church and sung there as well. Gospel music is a staple for why I do music now I originally found my voice through gospel from solos and just singing over all. Now my mom. She Played a lot of R&b, Caribbean, and Spanish music, her range was so crazy, ha ha. So having all of that influence really allowed me to tap into so many different sounds in my music now. Currently my sound is more R&B but I love to tap into my Caribbean side. I actually have a single I’m dropping soon that has a carribean/afro beat style, it’s super fun and I can’t wait for people to hear and see the visuals for it.

That brings me to what I’m excited for next. I am so excited for people to hear this next body of music because again it embodies so much of that versatility that I grew up on. Even though I wanna keep some of it a surprise I am dropping a 2nd Ep very very soon, and it is coming with great content.

I’m a very spiritual person so honestly, the reason I believe I’m here is because of God. Even though I have so much more to go, I’m very proud of how far I’ve come I currently have an EP out called “Love Language” that I dropped about 3.5- 4 years ago, I also have multiple singles and videos, behind-the-scenes, vlogs, covers, and mic performances that I’ve released over the years. The most important thing for me right now is building a team. I’m very grateful for the people that have helped me achieve what I have achieved so far. Not only do I want to win, but I also want to see the people around me win as well. Being an independent artist is definitely not easy. It’s actually very very hard, but it makes accomplishment so much more exciting. For example when I completed my EP, even though it took so much work, I was proud because it was created from just an idea in my head that I executed with my own resources. I have learned so much for that. I have made so many mistakes and even though those mistakes hurt me back then, they also helped me. But I can say having a team and a good support system really help me get through those tough days along with my team, a lot of prayer and just being calm and only controlling the things that is can. That’s one lesson that I can say I’ve learned along the way is knowing how to stay calm in situations that I have no control. Sometimes when you envision something and you have your head set on that, and then it doesn’t work out to be that it can be very frustrating, and sometimes cause you to overreact. So the biggest thing I’ve learned is to just stay calm and let things unfold the way they’re supposed to .

The one thing I want people to know about me is that I am a real person. Not only do I want you to see that in my personality, but I want you to see that in my music. I want people of all moods to be able to listen to me and relate. So when I’m going through something I don’t hold back. I don’t always wait till things get better to create because sometimes those pains and those times where you wanna give up is when you create the best content or the best work, so I just want people to know everything about me is genuine and it’s a story, my story.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thankfully, we’re in football season so if I had a friend come in to town, I would definitely have to take them tailgating. Cleveland is a very small city so there’s not that much to do. But when football season comes around, it’s so fun. From the bar hopping, tailgating, football parties it’s just always a good time. I know some people may feel how they feel about the Browns, but you can’t deny that they got the best fans.

Something else I would do is take them to get a polish boy lol. Now to people from Cleveland polish boys aren’t that serious but for some reason, I never can find Polish boys outside of Cleveland and if I do they’re not made the way they’re made in Cleveland. All of my out-of-town friends I always make them try a Polish boy just to see what it is.

Lastly, I will have to take you to a cookout with my family. We usually do most of our cookouts in the summer of course but when we do have them, they are so fun. I have a really big family so our gatherings are always a good time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a huge shout out to my producer and great friend J Reid. I have been working with J Reid for about 5 to 6 years. He pretty much produces all of my music. I honestly feel like without his creative input, advice and help over the years my music wouldn’t have the sound that it has today. Even though I tell him a lot I’m really appreciative of the hard work and dedication he puts in to each record that we create.
