We had the good fortune of connecting with Grizz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grizz, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a career in music because I always had a passion for the craft. Certain rhyme schemes, cadences, harmonies, and figurative language, really lured me into it. I love performing and interacting with people. While I worked at almost every job you can think of, I never felt fulfilled. I just knew it was something I had to do to survive but I never felt good about it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other artists is that I don’t have a gimic. My music is just a collection of my thoughts and experiences. Nobody besides Bow Wow has ever made it big from Columbus, OH so I feel like my journey has been unique as I’m still working on climbing. Throughout college, I honed my sound and performed at coffee shops, cyphers, hookah lounges, anywhere that would allow me to express myself and engage with the people. I want the world to know that even if you don’t have any label connects, or industry cosigns, if you believe strongly enough in your momentum and talent, then you can make a difference in the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If somebody was to come to Columbus for a weekend and hang out with me , we would for sure have to make a stop at Pins. It’s a dope bar/arcade that has all of your childhood games and good vibes. For food I’m pretty basic so I would suggest Hot Chicken Takeover or Donato’s Pizza. The bridges downtown by the waterfront are a nice view too especially in the spring time. For a night move depending on what type of vibe you would want, Bucks Platinum may have to be a destination as well ha.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My longtime high school friend/brother Deondre Drakeford. He let me record on Pro Tools for hours at a time and let me practice finding my sound /mixing. Sadler, a producer located in Georgia; he locked in with me to help create my 757 project. Anthony Church from Northeast Ohio; we’ve been working on a project called Solace for the last calendar year that I think people will be excited to hear once it’s complete.
