We had the good fortune of connecting with Hailey Birchfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hailey, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is one I learned recently. It’s staying true to what I love and am passionate about. People can tell when you’re heart just isn’t in it. Don’t get me wrong, passion isn’t solely what drives business but as an artist it’s evident in your work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I didn’t get to where I am today easily. The journey I have been on is one that I deeply appreciate and wouldn’t trade for anything. A lot of the challenges I faced were both personal and professional. I started off primarily self taught until I went to art school. Once I had graduated I moved to a city where I didn’t know anyone. I had to overcome my insecurities as an artist and the social anxiety I had. I have learned so many things along the way, but the biggest lesson was to be confident in what I love creating. If you’re not confident in your abilities, you can’t expect other people to be confident in you either.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a true introvert so I enjoy casual spots (and thankfully most of my friends do as well). I would probably start with brunch at Goodale Station. It’s a beautiful rooftop restaurant that overlooks the city. After that, a walk through German Village to, of course, go to the Book Loft. From there we would probably stop at the Museum of Art or Franklin Park Conservatory. Aside from the more tourist-like things, I have a few parking garages, buildings, and other little nooks that I take photos at constantly. I love showing those places to my friends. It allows them to see the city the way I do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this to my husband, Tra, my family, and my friend Nicole.
