We had the good fortune of connecting with HAWC GRIFFIN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi HAWC, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Growing up it was never my idea to start my own business, but what lead me to it was being frustrated not getting the connections I had hoped for, so I began applying my gifts, talents and knowledge to form what I wanted instead of waiting for the known companies to notice me. I’ve learned over time if you can’t rely on the others to do it, then do it myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets me apart from others in the area where I do what I do is that not many, if anyone, else does it. There are others who produce, play keys, or build music as if a one man band, but very few, again if any, also sing and deliver a full show that could make listeners believe it’s really a full band if they close their eyes and just listen. Many have heard me from a distance and have truly believed it was a band and separate singer, however when they see it’s just me, they’re still in disbelief and assume it’s karaoke, a DJ or radio because the quality of each instrumentation and vocal delivered is what they’d expect to hear from someone live or studio recording. I refuse to deliver music exactly like you would hear on streaming apps or radio, I want the audience to have an experience as close to a love concert as possible with excellence but also respect the original artist if it’s not my own original being performed, it’ll at least have my signature on it to make covers feel fresh and new again.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I honestly appreciate so many places around the city I would first ask what they like and hope for and expect and go from there. I’ve played at so many different places because of my ability to adjust my vibe and genre so I can reach and cator to anyone anywhere. I’d happily show them places I’ve played, so with that if they wanted that Hollywood feel with food and money is no object, we’d hit MASTRO’S at Easton, if they wanna dance and wild out we’d find out where my old band is playing and go where they are which could be Lazy Chameleon, Harry Buffalo, or various places in the Short North up and down High Street!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I hate that this sounds so cliché, old school and for many maybe nauseating, but my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ is always top billing for the thank you cast. Next would be my parents because my mom & pops and my step-dad were all involved in the arts one way or another so there was no escaping it. I found purpose and mission in it upon learning what the arts do for people and how people have been encouraged or inspired by the art I’ve allowed others to experience through my hands. I could go down a whole list of artists, producers etc to give a nod to for influencing my various expressions but I’m not tryna make anyone else gag or fall asleep reading this. My fav solo entertainer Michael Jackson, fav band Mint Condition, fav Gospel Commissioned, favorite VOCALIST EVER Rachelle Farrell!
