Meet Heather Baldwin

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Baldwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, how do you think about risk?
As a Bridal Hairstylist & Day of Coordinator you have to go into it knowing that this industry as a whole is a risk. Being a hairstylist and event manager you have to be mindful that there are tons of competitors, price points, marketing skills, fee and so much more. Knowing that my business might not always be consistent with bookings, some seasons will be busier than others, etc you have to learn to adjust & accommodate your business needs. The only thing I knew first hand that I would continue to do, is always furthering my education, skills, and abilities for my present & future clients.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When starting out on this journey, the plan was to become a cosmetologist, work in a salon and build a clientele. At first, that’s exactly what I did. While knowing the bridal world has always been my passion, I kept pushing it away because I kept thinking maybe I was meant to just “do hair” coloring , cutting, etc. as much as I love being a master colorist, I just knew in my heart where my journey was supposed to lead. As I continued to get comfortable as a stylist , I started advertising myself more towards the bridal industry. The more and more confident I became I realized it was time to chase my passion. I continued with education, advertising for hair models And began working more with bridal clients & their wedding entourage. Being a bridal
Stylist I learned so much about the wedding world.. how much goes into planning for such a memorable day. I discovered more in depth about wedding day timelines, planning, decorations, dress changes & dramatic entrances into reception halls. I’ve heard many love story’s that are like chapter books, or the perfect movie. I’ve seen the stress and anxiety that comes to the final scene of the beginning of the next chapter. I’ve helped brides into dresses & the perfect placement of their hair pieces or wedding veil. Becoming more immersed in the bridal world I learned to help time manage & plan timelines. This is when wedding coordination came into play. At first it started with helping a family member plan their wedding, decorate & manage their time. It was just for fun. But then others started to notice & started asking me to coordinate for them or their daughter. So I decided to dip my toes into coordinating along with bridal hair , just to see if it was something I’d like to do. And to my surprise , I loved it. Not only have I had opportunities to style the bride , make her day shine a little brighter but I’ve been able to remove stress from the day to help make sure every little detail falls into place. Maybe the wind was a little too strong & signs started to fly away; I’ve been there to fix it before the bride noticed. The cake needs set out by a certain time because it’s buttercream and if it’s out too early it’ll melt? I can do that.. you need help setting up or managing the rehearsal dinner I’m there, from set up to tear down. It might make for a long day but it’s so rewarding knowing these people can look back and remember how smooth things went, how beautiful their hair was in their photos, the cute little curls their flower girls had walking down the aisle, seeing their momma all dressed up with the most stunning updo.. it’s all so worth it. The industry isn’t always perfect or fairytale like as mishaps do occur. But if you do what you can to make it right, to be the calm in the storm & help ensure that you can figure it out , it means more than you know. Punctuality, reliability, accountability, etc.. I’ve always done my best to ensure my clients feel secure .
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I can say I was privileged enough to grow up in the best part of Ohio. Hocking hills. So many parks you can visit, hikes you can go on. Hopeful my friend enjoys nature, as in my free time I enjoy outdoors. We’d stay in a cabin , enjoy the birds chirping, count deer, explore the area; Old man’s Cave, Ash Cave, the hocking hills dining lodge, fishing at lake Logan, tubing at buckeye lake. A trip to Deere creek to explore , maybe for Deere creek dam days. I’d love to take them mushrooms hunting but the number one rule is you can’t give just anyone your hunting spots. LOL
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If it wasn’t for my Husband; I would have never thought of joining the hair industry. He saw my potential way before I ever did. My hidden passion for transforming others by enhancing their already existing features was something I loved to do as a hobby. He seen it in me before I seen it in myself. He has always busted his back to provide for our family even when we were younger and just starting out. Without him encouraging me to transform my dreams into reality , none of this would have been possible. He’s the backbone behind Bridal Radiance. He’s helped me create my brand, shape me into who I am today, and continues to encourage me to chase my dreams.
