We had the good fortune of connecting with Hope Easton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hope, what do you attribute your success to?
I think some of the most important factor’s behind my success is belief, consistency and steadfastness.

Number one, believing in myself, in what I create, and to be consistent in my performance and always striving to give what I have to give.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I think what sets me apart, is that I am not only a cello player. I write music and sing and also play guitar and piano. But composing and writing songs, is probably the most fulfilling part of my musical life. That and then creating a song production, with all the other elements, instruments, harmonies, etc.

As well. I love to play music and playing with other musicians, other types of groups. So I find I have a pretty rich life in the amount of music I come in contact with and am fortunate to perform. From the old composers who created the classical , baroque, romantic periods as well as 20th century composers of music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well there are so many places in Los Angeles. Our street is becoming a small food center so I would stick nearby. Cento was just nominated for a Michelin star, or bakery across the street at Tartine. But we cook really well at home.
If I would take my friends on a little jaunt I would go through Santa Barbara ( stop at Third Window Brewery) and then head up to Paso Robles. I might stay in Itascadero, because I just found that is a gem of a spot. Go to some wineries, Niner is good and maybe take a tour, or just try out a new one. There are over 200.wineiers. Then head back to LA.
The Broad museum is great as well as the Getty, and maybe look for a new food place I havent tried.
You cant miss the opportunity to go to the ocean, which is central to  LA, you could choose a canyon though…
The best of both worlds.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Theodore Johnson, my step father. Clarinetest in the Cleveland Orchestra. Who’s dedication to music and the Orchestra, definitely left an imprint on my life. Growing up with him from about 10 on, he helped me practice before school ( we’d get up at 6 am and work on rhythm) and the many musicians I performed for as a young child. Including Lorin Maazel and Lynn Harrell.
