Meet Isaac Patterson | High School Senior & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaac, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I choose to pursue a career that was heavily focused on creativity because I have always had an eye for unnoticed details and a creative take on the world around me. Photography came somewhat naturally to me; being able to efficiently set up a shoot, or pose a subject, has always been easy for me since I started this career path a year ago. While I have much more to learn about the creative side of this profession, I ultimately get to let my own creativity run wild in my work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud of the amount of opportunities I’ve been given with only being in the photography field for a little over a year. Not many people can say they’re lucky enough to get paid for their work or even be able to do things with different foundations and sports teams. I’ve been able to use my talents for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation: Evening of Hope event and even got to take pictures for the Eastern Michigan and Ohio University football teams. It’s a blessing to have some of the accomplishments I have at this moment in my life. As for the process of starting this journey, it wasn’t the hardest thing. I live by the belief that if you give all of your worries and fears to God, you personally work hard, and believe that you can do something, you’ll succeed. A lot of people have contributed to my success, but ultimately I’m the person who put the work in to get where I am today and I’m excited to see what’s to come in the next couple of years!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anyone who knows me knows the exact place I’m about to say: The East Market! It’s a railhouse that was converted into to a food market with multiple different restaurants, some locally owned and some branches of well-known chains. The first place I’m taking them is 100% going to be The Bearded Baker. Within the past year, I have created a well-rounded friendship with the owner and his wife, leading to many different opportunities for me to bring in new customers. Another place I’d take someone would have to be the Franklin Park Conservatory across the street from the East Market. It is such a beautiful place to walk around, and knowing me, I’d turn it into a photoshoot on the fly!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a lot of different people who have contributed to my success in the past year, ranging from my parents, to my classmates, to even my doctors! The person I owe most of my success to would have to be my father, Sean Patterson. From the moment I said that I wanted to pursue photography, he’s been right behind me, ready to help with anything I need. He has been a vital part to sharing my work on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, to create opportunities to be successful with my craft. If there’s anyone I know I can consistently rely on as I step into this career, I know it will always be my dad first. I also want to give some credit to my classmates and friends throughout this last year. A lot of them have trusted me as a photographer with things like senior portraits, collegiate sport team signings, graduation pictures, and more. Without their trust and support, who knows how my career would look right now.
