We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamar Silvers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamar, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
In reality, there is no set feeling of recognizing when to give up or keep going; it depends on each person as well as their desire or will to give up or keep going given that in life, we all have different timing and different circumstances; you could have someone who is genuinely at rock bottom who doesn’t give up, or you could have someone who had a minor mishap at their first job and immediately wants to quit and give up; if you have that mentality, you’ll never succeed. And that individual whose hit Rock Bottom is nowadays doing so much better because they experienced it refused to give up when the cards were all stacked against them, because at the end of the day, you never know what’s in store for you, especially if it’s your passion on this planet, don’t ever walk away from it, do your absolute best.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art has undergone a few creative changes this year, which is beneficial since I’m learning new thinking methods and processes. My photography has been influenced by the fine art element of photography instead of the commercial side, which I had to fully accept since it’s simply not what I’d like to do and doesn’t make me happy. Although I believe what distinguishes me from others is my determination to see my photographic work through, yet truly, I feel that in our styles of photography, we are all apart but united through webs of inspiration and creative similarities, as the true essence of art to me is to inspire others to find inspiration personally to create amazing things. Although I am enthusiastic about what lies ahead for my photography since I am still learning new things about various techniques that I may add to my main style of photography. When it comes to obstacles in the way of my photography this year, there have been a lot of mental and artistic snags. When you have to deal with your mind and your art at the same time, it can always be difficult. However, as difficult as that may be, I know that with each challenge comes a lesson and experience that can be learned from. What I want readers to take away from this is that it’s ok to struggle at times. But whatever you do do not give up on yourself keep going even when the going gets tough you never know whats at the end unless you keep going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The places I would take my best friend if they visited Cincinnati are quite random; for instance, Spring Grove Cemetery would be one of the must-see places. Some of you may find it dismal and gloomy, but not for me. The parks around the city of Cincinnati notably Eden, Burnet Woods, and numerous other parks are other destinations I would take my best friend. Now places I would take them to eat would be Corinthian pizza in Clifton, and Haru downtown and as for drinking I don’t really drink a lot personally But in generalization of fun I feel just visiting scenic locations of Cincinnati and talking about the history and bonding would be my prime idea of what I would want to do with them.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to my family who supported me through this journey and also my friends kept pushing me and I wanted to thank those random strangers I crossed paths with while out doing photography I’m just grateful for everyone that has made a impact on me.
