We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
I do not agree with the hustle culture. I believe in hard work and dedication, but a healthy work life balance is key.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I decided to start my business during the pandemic which was surprisingly easy. There was a need for people who specialized in community and voter engagement. The landscape was different than years prior because we needed people with strong telecommunication skills. That’s where I came in training volunteers how to phone bank. I expanded into facilitating, public speaking and community outreach within a year.

The most important lesson I have learned is to take time for self care. Doing community outreach can be stressful . I cannot pour from an empty cup. I make sure that I take time to myself to pour into me. Sometimes, it’s by meditating. Other times its through writing poetry & art.

I am most excited about becoming a Buckeye Ambassador which allows me to serve the community more, Also, working with artist Mac Love to assist bring more community involved art to the Buckeye/Woodhill area. It so inspiring to see artwork from community members working together on a collaborative piece.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the Museum of Art, then to the Rock n Roll hall of fame. We would go to The Vegan Club for Lunch which has the best vegan food. Then we’d stop by Unbar for coffee and conversation. We’d finish our evening having dinner downtown at the House of Creole and sightseeing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends and family have been very supportive in my journey. Especially, my twin sister Rose.
