Meet Jennifer Stevens | Content creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Stevens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi jennifer, what’s your definition for success?
I didn’t start social media in hopes of getting famous or rich. I did it so that I could prove to myself that I could do what I set my mind to. That It didn’t just have to be a thought or an idea but that I had the power to make it a reality. Making those first videos for my YouTube channel years ago was probably the most cringey thing I’ve ever done but I’m so incredibly grateful that I stuck with it. This small platform I have gives me the opportunity to encourage other women to believe in themselves the way I did. I’m a huge believer in you get what you put out there. I just want to spread positivity and light whenever I can. Some days are easier than others but you have to try every day.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Makeup has always been a passion, a hobby and an escape for me. In my culture it is not the norm to have a public image on social media. It’s frowned upon for women to sort of put themselves out there in that way. I think the fear of being judged held me back for a long time. Thankfully there came a day I just didn’t care anymore, and I took a chance on myself.
When on these platforms you have to train yourself not to compare yourself to other creators. That is where it can go really bad really fast. I know I have created a safe space for women and I trust in that and I believe in my purpose.
It’s kind of crazy still till this day to be noticed by brands or receive PR . A truly remarkable moment for me was getting the opportunity to work with Dove. I grew up watching my mom , my grandmother use this brand, and to have them reach out was such an incredible experience. It kind of felt like I was making the women in my family proud, even though my grandmother has passed and had no idea. I don’t know just how it felt I guess.
I will say one thing that is so hard to not get in your own head about in this industry is brand events/ trips. Kind of a sign that you have arrived or are on your way. I’m still waiting for my opportunity with that, but it’s hard to not feel like you’re just not good enough or your content isn’t good enough. (Again with the comparing yourself )
I know God has the right opportunity waiting for me. Gotta keep hustling till it comes.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my! I’m such a home body lol but I love museums so I would plan to visit those. There would be several brunches. My bestie and I love Mexican cuisine so we would have to hit up Barrio tacos and sip margaritas. Spa day at sacred hour for sure, their massage therapists do an amazing job. We would most likely end it with a girls night in watching movies.
My favorite local coffee shop is brewed awakenings, their rocky road blend is chefs kiss. With Christmas time coming up Crocker park is must. It’s an all in one outdoor shopping/ dining area and they have the cutest decorations for Christmas. The chocolate store there has amazing treats. They even put up a small ice skating rink! I don’t know how to ice skate so you’re on your own with that.
We also have a beautiful theater district, they bring some awesome shows to town. I’m seeing a comedy show there soon. They have mean girls there right now which I was hoping to see but I don’t think I will be able to make time for it. Mean girls is probably in my top three favorite movies!
Downtown has evolved so much over the years. And oh boy are we a football town. All the tim
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is so easy. It’s all the women in my life who lift me up. Past and present friends who encouraged to embark on this journey.
I truly don’t believe I can say any one person inspired me. It took me years to understand what sacrifice is/ means. My shoutout is to the people that really ride for me. If you ride for me I ride for you, it’s as simple as that.
