Meet Jevante King-Woods | Expressionist Artist, Digital Artist & Curator.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jevante King-Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jevante, why did you pursue a creative career?
For me it is simple. I was searching for purpose and trying to find a way to express myself at a time where I really was not. That is when I reconnected with art and once I sold my first painting I immediately thought to myself how do I make this a business and how can I create in a way that not only benefits me but others. Seeing how I have made people feel with my art gave me the drive to pursues this as a career.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So I am an expressionist artist, and my goal is to get out my feelings, emotions and ideas. With that, I am very much so telling my truth and my story in everything I create. Me being an individual and very in tune with who I am as a person and artist is what sets me apart. I am able to work in almost any environment with anyone because I come as myself and if I am in a room or event I am meant to be there.
Getting here was not easy at all. Personally you deal with ups and downs that keep you from being focused and there was a time I was not sure if this is what I wanted not being sure of myself. I changed the way I looked at a lot of things through therapy and letting go of the old to make room for the new. One of the biggest lessons I learned was that everything and everyone is not meant to be in your life forever and vice versa. Live life one day at a time and always be aware that a pivot may be needed. I also have learned to trust yourself more. If you do the work to know yourself and love yourself you know what is good for you and what is not.
I want everyone to know that everything they see from paintings to clothing to digital designs are 100% me. I am the same person in real life that I am at my shows, online and anywhere else you see me. My story is far far from complete.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First things we do is make sure we know what dietary restrictions there may be. Then we set up reservation where needed and plan out the food! A stop in Ohio city will be on the list to eat at Heck’s, a stop at Zanzibar, lunch one day at Herb’n Twine Sandwich Co. and drinks at Cloak & Dagger and a night in the flats. We will pay a visit to the Botanical Gardens, Cleveland Museum of Art, local art galleries and depending time of the year try to catch a game from one of the professional teams we have. I like to keep it simple and straight forward as far as things to do, never want to have too much planned give people time to relax in between. Lastly the trip has to include some sneaker shopping.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my family and Dave Ramsey from DeepRoots Experience. My family has been really supportive attending art exhibitions, buying art, merch and more. Dave with DeepRoots has been my primary curator for the last few years and help me to grow in the business of selling art through the pandemic.
