Meet Jill Koch | Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Koch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jill, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success has to be consistency. When I first started out and really wanted to grow I committed to posting every day for 30 days no matter what. After 30 days I was seeing some success so I decided to try for 30 more and before I knew it, it just became ingrained in me and I haven’t ever really stopped. So even on the busiest days or hard days I try to stay as consistent as possible. That doesn’t mean I can’t take a day off here and there but overall I have to remain consistent with the things I do for my business each day. The nice thing about consistency though is that over time it really just becomes habit and part of your daily routine. So in the beginning it takes discipline to remain consistent but over time it becomes part of my day to day and it’s easier to stick to.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began this career of content creation 5 years ago. Early on it started as a hobby and with persistence and dedication to learning and improving my craft it has grown into a career and full time job that I absolutely love. My niche is really based around caring for our homes and I love to provide easy practical ways to do just that. I also try to use as few harmful chemicals in the process because I truly have found that so many cleaning tasks can be done with simple ingredients. There will definitely be times when strong solutions are needed but for our daily cleaning tasks more safe and effective options work.
I think what sets me apart from others in my niche is the use of less harsh chemicals and I’m not as much about following a rigid cleaning routine but more about teaching you simple, time saving techniques so you know how to best tackle a task when you have time and help you care for your home in ways that fit your lifestyle. Because, while every home needs cleaned, it’s definitely not a one size fits all task.
What I’m most proud of is all of the wonderful opportunities I’ve been able to have with this career. I’ve been able to check things off my bucket list and meet so many wonderful people that I otherwise wouldn’t have if not for this job. I got to where I am today by the grace of God and an incredible community of people who support my work. They are the reason I get to do this and I will never be able to express my gratitude to them enough. I also got here by working hard and setting goals and continuing to put one foot in front of the other to achieve them. It has definitely not always been easy and there are days when you’ll want to give up when it gets hard. But every time that happens I remind myself of why I started and honestly even on my hardest days, the thought of never doing it anymore makes me sad. I would miss this so much if I didn’t do it. So I’ve learned to recognize when it’s just a hard day or hard week, trust the process and know that if I keep working hard it will pay off.
I’ve also learned along the way that there are going to be peaks and valleys and sometimes it will seem like you’re in the valley’s longer than you’re on the peaks. But trust that that hard days are there to help you and they make the good days all that much better. There will be sacrifices that have to be made and in the beginning you will likely work so hard for next to nothing. I did this for a full one to two years before I started making a good income from it. But I was passionate about it and enjoyed it so I just kept pressing on. So find something you love and are willing to do for free because then on the hard days you’ll still enjoy doing it. Also, be willing to learn new things. So much of my growth in my business has come from investing time into learning a new skill or way of doing something that could help further my business. Surround yourself with a good circle of people who uplift you and encourage you but can also give it to your straight when you need it. Learn from others in your field who have gone before you and can teach you something you didn’t know yet. And never forget where you started. As you grow and get to where you were wanting to be, be willing to help someone just starting out like those you helped you.
What I want the world to know about my story is that I am a regular person just like anyone else and if I can go from a reporting job out of college to a nurse to an entrepreneur, anyone can achieve whatever their goal is too as long as you are willing to work for it. I took a chance and went for it even when family and friends thought it was weird and didn’t understand why I wasn’t just sticking with a job I had a degree in. Don’t be afraid to pivot to something new if you know it’s something you’ll enjoy and are willing to work hard for. In terms of my brand I want people to know that I really enjoy people and my goal is always to bring value and provide information or tips that help you in someway solve a problem or make something easier. We are all busy so if I can help simplify a task at home or help you enjoy your space a little more, then that makes me happy. Oh and I love pink. But that part is probably pretty obvious 🙂
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow, I’m glad they are here a week because there are so many areas to show them! I’d probably start further out and take them to Loveland for brunch at Tano or Ramsey’s and pop into Lemons and Limes Boutique. Then we’d hit the bike trail or kayak down the Little Miami River if it’s a nice day. I’d probably take them to Newport so they can see the beautiful view of downtown Cincinnati while also taking in some of the fun at the levy. From there I’d take them downtown to the Banks and we’d catch a Red’s game (or Bengals) grab a drink at the rooftop bar at the AC Hotel or inside the bar at The Lytle Park Hotel. Then at some point we’d check out OTR. I’d want them to see Hyde Park and Oakley. Maybe pop into Madtree while there. We’d do a little shopping at Kenwood or Liberty Center in West Chester and we’d grab some Graeters for something sweet. If they had kids or love animals I’d take them to the zoo. Lastly, we’d end with a lunch or dinner outside at Incline Public House for the beautiful views of downtown.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh my goodness there are so many people! I have to shoutout God first and foremost for giving me the abilities and opportunities to get me where I am today. Next I have to thank my husband who is so incredibly supportive and has been since day one. He’s always trusted my decisions and been open to whatever I want to try or go after. I also have a core group of friends who have been life lines in helping me navigate this industry and the entrepreneur life. They are there for me to bounce ideas off of, give me tips or advice or simply listen when I need to vent because they understand it too.
