Meet Jill Lynn | Designer & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Lynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jill, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Being a business owner was always on my mind, even as a child. I remember making hair clips in my bedroom and hustling them at the end of the driveway to all the neighbors. My mom even told me once I sold rocks to people. Just every day rocks that anyone could pick up, I used to make a profit. I always worked in sales which is like running your own business, knowing one day, the time would present itself to go off on my own.
I’m a believer that good things happen to good people. If you follow your strengths and surround yourself with like-minded individuals, the universe will give you exactly what you need. This belief led me to switch careers from the clothing industry to the real estate industry in 2019, right before COVID. I can certainly elaborate on the hurdles, but everyone had them. I got married, moved to Ohio with my new husband, and started a staging & decorating business.
When thinking about starting your own business, you must truly believe in yourself. No matter what, failing isn’t an option. I had a talent to decorate, the will to work, and a service that is in-demand. Was it perfect in the beginning? Absolutely not. I learned along the way, made mistakes and trusted my intuition.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I believe my business helps others. I believe I’m a good person.
I believe that I bring value to others.
I believe that nothing comes without hard work.
I believe good things happen to good people.
I believe everyone has obstacles.
I believe I get what I give and that not might happen immediately.
I believe to expect more from myself than others.
I believe that having a home-base can help “ground” you.
I have always had an attraction to individualism. Better put, I’m adaptable to situations that allow me to be ME. This goes back to surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals. For example, I love real estate and I could look at houses all day!! However, my end game isn’t to buy/sell the physical house, but to ensure the family moving into it sees the potential. After 2 transactions, I quickly learned that selling the house wasn’t my strength, rather dressing the house was.
Revolve Estate was founded because I have an affinity for homes. I believe your home can be your sanctuary and it doesn’t need to cost a fortune, There are certain things that require functionality because of use and things that are more aesthetic. It’s a give and take and there needs to be a balance. When tax season rolls around, I’m the first person to throw my statements at my accountants door. Let the people who have a passion and strength handle the things you can’t. (Thanks, Larry!)
I would consider myself an expert at finding value in decorating & design. I understand people’s needs and what they want out of their home. You will probably never see me design or decorate a house with an unlimited budget. Revolve Estate incorporates my core values into a home and that gets passed on to our clients.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I hope this goes without saying, but I would show them my home first. My friends and family know that they can come over at any time and have fun.
With that said, I love living in Cincinnati. The Bengals excite me, as do the Reds. There are so many adjacent states to visit and it offers affordable living. I love live music, duck pin bowling, karaoke, and fire pits. If you bring the energy, I’ll match it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everything happens for a reason. When you hold this true to your identity, there is no question that you’re heading in the right direction, I can’t express this enough.
I recently lost my mother and she was my #1 fan. Anything I did (selling hair clips in the driveway!), she supported. She believed in me before I did, and I just went with it. Trust those closest to you – not just their advice – but what they believe you can be. Anyone with an opinion can give you advice, but it’s those that know your heart, that can advise you on what you’re capable of. All of this is easier said then done but it starts with self-confidence. If you have none, then now is the time to surround yourself with people that are like-minded. My mom believed I was special because I was outgoing and had no fear when it came to selling myself/product to anyone who would listen. At the end of the day, it’s blind faith & a support group that will lead you towards achieving more, but you have to be willing to accept that and push yourself.
