We had the good fortune of connecting with JODIE OATES-OWEN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JODIE, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We purchased a building and had no prospects for tenants. So, we built the business ourselves.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My husband & I have been Entrepreneurs for the majority of our adult lives. He is the consummate Urban Recycler and, I am the Queen of implementation. Together we make a good team. We do truly believe that if we conceive it, it can be done. That being said, it is anything but easy. All businesses may start with a dream. but then there is work. You need to suit up & show up every day. It is a grind. It is a sacrifice. But it is worth it. We try to bring the absolute best products available to our customers in a unique retail setting like no other. Many of our legacy items carry a lifetime guarantee. We take great pride in selling merchandise that family members will have for years to come and pass on to further generations. Most importantly, above all, The Jenks Building is a place where dreams come true.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The greatest thing about our location is that we are in the heart of Downtown Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on Front Street within walking distance to the Cuyahoga River & The Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Hiking the trails or taking one of our Old Town Canoes down the Cuyahoga River is always a great time. Eggs Benedict at Flurry’s is a breakfast must. The Sheraton Hotel, directly across the street from The Jenks, has beautiful views overlooking the Rapids and the best lobster Bisque in the world. Moe’s on Front is a time honored favorite for dinner. Tiki Underground is a local attraction for those so inclined. The Jenks plays live Music 5 nights a week. The sound coming out of our Machine Shop is Second to none. There is always something to see in Cuyahoga Falls.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Husband. Michael Owen. He has the ability to see what is not yet, and, he is an amazingly optimistic individual. The Jenks building would not exist without him.
