We had the good fortune of connecting with John McGinnis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Definitely my passion for the food. Spending the time to make sure every step of the cooking process is respected. Cutting corners is the fastest way for your customers to feel you don’t care about your craft.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a restaurant and food truck owner so it’s definitely been no easy road. There are constant struggles from equipment malfunctions to staffing troubles. I think what sets me apart is my drive. I am always willing to do the work. No job is below me. If dishes need washed, I’m washing dishes. If the restaurant needs cleaned, I’m cleaning the restaurant. Whatever I need to do to make sure my employees have a job and my customers enjoy their visit every time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Here in Columbus you can’t deny the short north area is a blast. There’s tons of restaurants, bars, shops, art venues, and great people watching. Definitely that’s a few evenings. There’s a great indoor golf simulator facility called The fairway Columbus” with a restaurant/clubhouse that does awesome food called “Birdie’s Grill” we would definitely spend some time there’s. It’s a great time, and you don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy. There are tons of mini games or you can just catch a game on the tvs with dinner in the clubhouse.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people I’ve worked with over the years. When I was coming up in kitchen around Columbus Ohio there were a lot of people I worked with that gave me advice. Too many to name. I took a little bit from each of my managers/chefs I worked under. I like to think I am a melting pot of all that have taught me through the years. I think that’s why my menus always have food from all different regions.
