We had the good fortune of connecting with Justus King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justus, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative career because it allowed me to express my unique perspective and tell stories that often go unheard. It’s a way for me to contribute to the rich tapestry of human culture and foster understanding and connection through art. Creativity is a powerful tool to challenge stereotypes and promote diversity, helping to break down barriers and build bridges between different communities. As a black male creative, I also wanted to be a positive representation and inspire others who might not see themselves reflected in the arts. Ultimately, it’s about using my talents to make a positive impact and contribute to the ever-evolving cultural landscape.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a reflection of my journey as a black male creative who dared to defy the status quo. What sets me apart is the fusion of my unique experiences, appearance, and fashion sense, which shape my creative expression. I’m most proud of my ability to use my art to challenge stereotypes and share my perspective on the world.

Professionally, the path hasn’t been easy. I faced adversity, prejudice, and judgment. But I overcame these challenges by staying true to myself and using my art as a means to spark conversations about diversity and individuality.

Along the way, I’ve learned the power of resilience and the importance of amplifying underrepresented voices. My story is a testament to the idea that art can be a force for change and empowerment.

I want the world to know that my brand is about breaking boundaries and encouraging self-expression. I hope to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness, no matter their background or appearance. My journey is a reminder that we can all use our creative voices to make a positive impact on the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Cincinnati for a week, I’d make sure they experienced the best the city has to offer. Here’s an itinerary for a memorable trip:

Day 1:
– Start with breakfast and bottomless mimosas at Ladder 19 .
– Visit the Cincinnati Art Museum to appreciate some incredible art.
– Spend the evening wandering around Fountain Square and enjoy live music or events.

Day 2:
– Grab lunch at Skyline Chili for a Cincinnati cuisine.
– Explore the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, known for its beautiful exhibits.
– In the evening, head to Rhinegeist Brewery for craft beers and stunning rooftop views.

Day 3:
– Head to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center to learn about Cincinnati’s role in the Underground Railroad.
– Have an evening stroll along the water by the Banks.

Day 4:
– Have an immersive experience at The Creation Museum and learn about the creation of the world.
– Spend the afternoon in Eden Park, which offers beautiful views.

Day 5:
– Truck down to Williamstown, Kentucky and walk around Noah’s Ark at The Ark Encounter.

Day 6:
– Have dinner at Sotto, an Italian restaurant in downtown Cincinnati.
– Go out on the town by first starting at Nostalgia Wine& Jazz Lounge on Vine Street.

Day 7:
– End the trip with a trip to the infamous Jungle Jim’s

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As I am a follower of Jesus Christ, I would like to first and foremost give Him credit for all of the opportunities I’ve been given. Walking this journey has been a bit lonely at times, but He never stepped away from me and continued to uphold me with His righteous right Hand.
