Meet Kate Troyer | Feng Shui Lifestylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Troyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“You get in life what you have the courage to ask for.”
It’s such a powerful quote that I’ve held onto for years, I couldn’t even tell you where I first heard or read it, but it’s always deeply resonated with me. It’s a reminder that, while alignment is important, sometimes we have to pave the way for ourselves. We must be willing to speak up for what we want, to put ourselves in spaces that make us uncomfortable, and to have the courage to show up for a life that is uniquely our own.
What should our readers know about your business?
When I started Homeslice Living almost 6 years ago, you would have never heard me say, “I’m going to become a Feng Shui practitioner”. I started my business as a home staging and design consulting company and was doing extremely well within my first couple years.
At the beginning of 2021 I started going into a healing journey with my personal life and Feng Shui just kind of fell in my lap. In a very wild, synchronistic way. And when it did, I couldn’t ignore it. I was hooked on the idea immediately and signed up for classes to become a certified practitioner within a week of reading a book by Terah Kathryn Collins. Of course our home are a direct mirror of us! Of course- what’s happened in our past, what’s showing up presently and what we expect to happen in our future is also showing up in our spaces!
While I assumed the transition from staging/design consulting to Feng Shui was a “no brainer” I found myself caught up in wondering if all my clients thought, ‘I was doing something weird now’. I also didn’t think about the fact that, not many people know what Feng Shui is or at the very least if they do know they WHAT, they have no idea how it can help them and transform their lives.
I take that original disconnect as a blessing. It has allowed me to create fresh and simplified ways of talking about Feng Shui and home wellness in general. I think that has been the problem all along really, with Feng Shui not taking off before in the 90’s as much as it could have, not enough people were ‘translating’ it right, so more people could connect with it.
That’s why I love not only being able to work 1:1 with clients for a deep transformation of their life and home but also when I get to teach at workshops or speak at events, when I see the ‘light bulb’ moment for someone go off and I know they’ve just made a connection to their home that they’ll never forget, it’s everything!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What I love about Chagrin Falls is… basically everything. I mean what’s not to love about upscale shopping, delicious restaurants, a waterfall running right through the middle of town. It’s simply a magical little spot in Ohio. We would start our morning for a stroll down to Lemon Falls Cafe for tea, light breakfast and a morning chat before heading out to all the boutiques. Some of my favorites are Hedges, All Matters (which is unfortunately closing at the end of December 2023), Gypsy Sol, the Book Store (one of my all time favorite places) and the toy stores are great as well, along with several great clothing boutiques.
Onto lunch at 17 Grille for a table either outside or inside by the falls and river, depending on the time of year. Starting out with their delicious Heavenly Biscuits, paired with a salmon Caesar salad and a glass of wine. We wonder down and sit by the falls for a bit after lunch before heading off to hike at Henry Church Rock nearby. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend, it’s one of my favorite spots! First off, the hike is stunningly beautiful and has a very ‘romantic/nostalgic’ vibe to it and about half way through the hike there is this extremely large rock that was carved in the 1800’s by a local folk artist and it’s just breath taking.
We may also check out the Glass Asylum to make blown glass pieces or head to Willoughby to enjoy come drinks at Kava Sol before dinner.
For dinner, we’re headed to my ALL TIME favorite spot in Chagrin Falls, Batuqi. An authentic Brazilian kitchen that also holds the coziest dining energy. We’re starting off the night with their signature cocktail, a Strawberry Caipirinha (sooo good), Pao De Queijo (Brazilian Cheese Bread) and Torresmo com Mandioca (a bar snack of fried pork belly and yucca fries). For dinner, we’ll order a few entrees for sharing, the seabass is always amazing, the Xim Xim (a Brazilian Stew) and the Strogonoff de Frango (a sort of Brazilian strogonoff but with hearts of palm, rice and crispy potatoes. We always finish the night off with the chocolate bon-bons and the coconut cake. This meal is one of experience and community, plan to stay a while and enjoy it. Not only is the food fantastic, the staff is out of this world!
We’ll finish with a night cap on the patio at JoJo’s and pretend we are on vacation for a bit.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In a way, there are several-
Shoutout to, my pops for never discouraging me from trying anything I was curiously passionate about. To one of my dearest friends, Robbie Cornelius who has been such an amazing mirror for growth in my life and my business for many years. To my mystical sister, Courtney Childress for bringing out the softness of true friendship in my life. To, Terah Kathryn Collins, for being my first deep connection with Feng Shui. And to all the amazing women and men I know out here doing “the work”, those who find themselves seeking a deeper connection to everything around them, including their homes- of course. 😉
