Meet Kelsey Elizabeth | Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Elizabeth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work-life balance is actually something I have struggled with quite a bit over my career, but I feel that I’ve really figured out a balance that works for me. When I was first starting out, right after college before I started working for myself, I dove head first into work. I often worked 6 days a week, a full-time and part-time job. I did not take time for myself at all because I was just so driven and focused on making money.
In 2020 I was forced to take a step back and examine what truly was important to me. This is when I decided to start working for myself. First with an online English second language tutoring business, then transitioning into full-time content creation in 2022. At this time, I found myself working constantly. There was absolutely zero work-life balance. My mental health was seriously suffering and I knew I had to take a break. Recently I took some much-needed time off from content creation to refocus. During this period, I learned to set boundaries for myself and manage my time better. Now I only work 3 days a week, 4 max. No more than 8 hours a day, from 7 am to 3 pm. At 7 pm every day I put my phone away and do not touch it again until the next morning. I also have my phone set with “app limits” so that I can’t use social media for more than 35 minutes on weekdays and not at all on weekends. There are no exceptions to these rules I have set for myself. The other important aspect of this work/life balance is to create a daily routine and stick to it.
Since putting these practices into place in September, I have not only felt a huge improvement in my mental health but also seen an actual improvement in my content. I also feel more creative overall. I am not the only one who has noticed it seems, because my Instagram and YouTube followings have started growing again!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is me. No one else has my unique perspective, and therefore my work speaks for itself. The other thing that sets me apart is my drive and ambition. I will never give up on the pursuit of what I want. Even when I get discouraged or depressed, I just keep going. I don’t let anything stop me for long. This drive has always served me well and has gotten me to where I am today.
Professionally, I am most excited about my YouTube channel (Sincerely Lovely), which focuses mainly on lifestyle and fashion content. Starting a YouTube channel is something I had never envisioned doing for myself. I had set up channels and helped create videos for clients in the past, but was always too nervous to start one for myself. I always thought it would be too much work or that I did not have the right equipment. While it is a lot of work, I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish with only my iPhone. My goal was to create a safe and inclusive space where self-expression and romanticizing life were celebrated. This is also the main idea behind my brand. Focusing mainly on lifestyle and fashion content. It has been fun putting my degree in psychology and a past career in the luxury/ couture fashion world to use in making videos predicting fashion trends. I also share my recipes and adventures. Another goal with the channel was to reach 1k subscribers within the first year of posting, and I am so close!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting, first I would ask if they wanted to visit me in Columbus, Ohio or Marco Island, Florida. I am guessing they would choose my home in Florida, but either way I would take them to all my favorite local spots, as well as cook for them.
In Marco Island, we would mostly hang out at the beach or by my pool all day. We would take multiple walks with the dogs every day to the park. In the evenings I would either grill fresh fish for them, or I would take them out to Oyster Society, Isle of Capri Fish House, Davide Italian Café, or any of the other hundreds of amazing local restaurants. One day I would take them over to Miami for a day of shopping in the design district. Another day we would go down to Key West to explore.
If they wanted to come to Ohio, I would insist they visit in the fall because that is the most beautiful season here. We typically get tickets to all the home Ohio State games so I would have to take them to a game, with breakfast at Hangover Easy the day of. We would go hiking and probably do a yoga class. We would also explore the Short North Arts District and Bridge Park. Maybe go to COSI or the Columbus Zoo if we had time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am without the consistent and complete support from my husband.
