We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenny Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The project originally started with myself (Kenny) and our former bassist. We just wanted to do something fun. It seemed like everyone around us was trying so hard to be “cool” and brand themselves as serious to the nth degree. We just started making music with the thought of “do we think this is cool?” and if the answer was yes, we ran with it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We’re incredibly proud of the fact that we’ve managed to cultivate the audience we have, without sacrificing a hair of who we are as people. We think what set’s us apart (besides the colorful jumpsuits) is our ability to put on a fun and powerful performance while looking and sounding cohesive, without adhering to the tropes and unsaid rules of being in a “rock band” that we have so much disdain for. We love putting on a show with lights and theatrics, but we never have to fake anything. I think people gravitate towards us because they see that we’re trying to be real and that we’re all really good friends. It wasn’t easy and we’re definitely still learning. We’ve had rough patches. We’ve had to ask members to leave and we’ve lost friends over it. But without those rough patches, we wouldn’t be where we’re at now. If we would want people to know anything about us, is that we don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we’d like to think we do when it matters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Go to Dirty Dungarees. If you’re a music/DIY fan, Dirties is one of the last places I’ve seen where groups of kids show up everyday just to see whose playing, whether they know who it is or not. It’s a laundromat/bar/DIY music venue. The place is old and the sound is terrible half the time, but I believe that’s where music and band culture are blossoming right now. Also go eat at Dirty Franks. You can’t go wrong with hotdogs

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a band, I think it would be really hard dedicate our shout out to one person or entity because we have very different backgrounds. I think we would love to dedicate this to the family members, friends, and partners who have continued to support and nurture our love for music and performing. We’ve all been very lucky to have people in our lives who saw our potential and wanted to see us blossom. Me personally, I’d love to dedicate this to my dad. Without him, I wouldn’t be a songwriter. Everything I create I want him to be proud of.
