Hi Kenston, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Being willing to face my F.E.A.R every single day has contributed to my success. F.E.A.R stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. This really came up for me when I started something new in my business, from cold calling, sending out emails, being more social on social media, doing more marketing and advertising, working with quickbooks. But now FEAR to me means, FACE EVERYTHING AND RISE! It’s a new mindset that allows good energy to flow, which leads to positive moods, thoughts, and most importantly allows me to take action. I call it the Game Changer Mindset.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

With over 20 years in HR, I’ve discovered that my superpower lies in learning and development. Empowering leaders and teams fuels my passion, knowing that their success can elevate an entire department or organization to new heights. I credit my dad, a preacher, pastor, and teacher, for instilling in me this sense of purpose.

In my seven years of business, I’ve learned that greatness doesn’t happen overnight. Since day one, I’ve cultivated relationships, continually learned new things to streamline processes, and implemented systems to manage being a solopreneur effectively. Marketing used to be a significant challenge, causing frustration and days of avoidance. However, recognizing the need to enhance my off-stage engagement, I found a game-changer in ChatGPT. Despite some reservations about AI tools, I believe that, used for good, they can be transformative. ChatGPT has drastically reduced the time spent on content scripting for my posts and videos, making social media batching more efficient. I often tell fellow entrepreneurs and workplace professionals, “Don’t stay stuck when you have access to tools that will help you get unstuck.”

I want the world to not only know but also experience a speaker and people development partner that believes in delivering engaging and non-boring learning experiences.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Morning: Start with a Hearty Breakfast:
Head to Northstar Café in the Short North Arts District for a delicious and hearty breakfast. Try their famous Cloud Nine Pancakes or a wholesome Superfood Breakfast.

Late Morning:
Visit the Columbus Museum of Art:
Head to the Columbus Museum of Art for a dose of culture. Explore a diverse collection of artworks ranging from classic to contemporary. Check for any special exhibitions or events happening during your visit.

Lunch at North Market:
Head to North Market for lunch. This bustling market offers a variety of food options from different cuisines. Whether you’re in the mood for tacos, sushi, or local specialties, you’ll find something to satisfy your cravings.

Evening:
Happy Hour at Kitchen Social in Polaris, they have the best Cheddar Scallion Biscuits and pizza, and Korean BBQ Cauliflower
Dinner at Easton: Coopers Hawk is one of my favorites
Then head to Eason to enjoy a comedy show at the Funny Bone Comedy Club.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
You know, when I think about the people who’ve been my biggest supporters in this crazy journey of pursuing my passion, two amazing folks come to mind. First up is my incredible wife, or as I affectionately call her, Wifebae aka Dr. Terah Davis-Henderson. The moment I dropped the bomb about leaving my full-time gig to operate fully in purpose, she didn’t sugarcoat it. She had some reservations, but she always ended with, “Pray about it.” Since I took the plunge, she’s been my biggest cheerleader, helping me prep for every speaking gig and workshop. It’s gotten to the point where I think she’s considering joining me in delivering some seriously impactful talks and workshops too! 😉

And then there’s my brother, Lawrence Henderson. We’re practically walking the same path, so whenever we catch up over the phone or in person, he just gets it. But what sets him apart is that he’s not just a yes-man; he pushes me to be the best version of myself. Plus, being the older sibling, he drops some wisdom on me—good stuff, of course. Gotta love the mix of understanding and a dash of “older brother knows best” vibes. 😄
