Meet Korisha Wilks | President and Designer, Kri’s Kreations

We had the good fortune of connecting with Korisha Wilks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Korisha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My mom raised my siblings and I with the goal that it’s better to give than receive. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized in society, the spirit of Christmas has descended. There’s a lot of sadness, depression, and anxiety that surrounds Christmas, maybe someone lost a loved one or there was some tragedy during that time. I love to bring happiness and nostalgia to some with my customized Christmas decorations. Many of my customers state “my decorations make them happy, put them in the Holiday mood and at peace.” When that is told to me, then I have done my job! Christmas Spirit really matters!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work consists of a vintage look. I love to see and hear the sounds “your ornaments are beautiful and you have produced a vintage look.” The classic pearl ornament has been seen across America, in client’s homes and it is beautiful! This hasn’t been an easy road, however with support and guidance it’s been a blast! During the time I started this business, I was going through Depression and making ornaments and other Christmas decor became my peace.
One of the biggest lessons I learned is not to be too critical and have fun! Once it becomes stressful, it’s no longer your peace. Relax, relay, release!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend would visit, the first place would be to visit this wonderful breakfast spot called Sunrise. They have the best breakfast! Next if there are any listings of performing arts we would go to a play at the Orpheum or Hattiloo theater. Next I would show her around the city, visit Beale Street where we have some of the best live bands! We would also visit Midtown where Cafe Ole has the best margaritas!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family had been quite supportive of my decisions, therefore a huge thanks to them!
