Meet Latrell Woods | Multimedia Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Latrell Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Latrell, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I spend most of my time contemplating and exploring my own conscience. When I started to create consistently I broke from my mind in an unexplainable way, a new peace. Each piece that I finish is like a conversation between my mind and my soul that provides insight forever. A passion grew from this and I understood that it was something I wanted to explore forever, to create, to discover.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work has always been a pure reflection of my thinking in the moment though it may be hard to comprehend. My proudest moments have consisted of communicating with my work without obstruction and executing on those moments. I haven’t put the brush down since 2021, between then and now I’ve had a bumpy ride between darkness and light. The only way I could ever overcome those darker moments was by putting a foot forward, not always in the best direction but that’s where there knowledge comes, the important part is effort. I’ve learned countless lessons in my own experiences with creating like, “ Do it for yourself “. The lessons that have guided me the most though have been through transparent conversations with compassionate people who took the time to decipher experiences with me and through relentlessly creating.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Cincinnati there’s a spectrum of experiences to choose between. I personally enjoy the more calm areas of the city. For the first day of a week long trip I’d have to take my friend to see our Gaslight district to try some food and check out the architecture. Next day we’d go see the Ohio river and our stadiums, nearby there’s the Mercantile Library we’d have to visit, then head a couple blocks away to see fountain square. There’s options for musical, theatre, or sports entertainment to see live. It’s mandatory to wrap up the trip in Cincinnati with visiting all the historical places knocked off the checklist and at least one night out to see our unique nightlife.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My people are to be given the most credit in allowing me room to succeed. My mother, for loving me unconditionally, my grandmother for guiding me in the dark. All of my family, and my closest friends for seeing me. Specially recognizing G, a true friend, for always hearing me and steering me when I slip. And to those unnamed that have provided advice, and met my presence with compassion. I owe them all my eternal gratitude.
