We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Brabson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want to be remembered as someone who was hardworking and passionate about my career yet remained kind. The music industry can easily make you bitter and frustrated with the world. I don’t like to use the “woman” card, but when you’re confronted with statistics that stack the odds against you simply because you’re a woman, it can be hard to remain silent. It’s something I deal with every day, especially as a woman in production. I see statistics showing that less than 5% of women are involved in the production process. It’s easy to get upset about that, but instead, it motivates me to work harder, speak out about the issue, and help the next women in line.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It hasn’t been easy, but it’s always been worth it. Every single time. So many people dream of doing what truly fills their souls, so through both the highs and lows, I remind myself daily that it’s all part of the blessing. I’ve had doors open, moments that felt like I’d “made it,” only for them to close just as quickly. There have been countless letdowns and heartaches, but the key is knowing when to sit with them and learn, and when to shake it off and keep moving forward.

In late 2022, I left my full-time job to pursue music. Before that, music was something I could fit in around my day job. I’d work on music in the evenings and weekends, but I couldn’t fully invest in it the way I knew I could. I wasn’t expanding beyond my routine circles, and it felt like I was stuck in cycles that didn’t lead anywhere. While I’m thankful for those times and know they led me to where I am today, they weren’t pushing me toward building a career in music. I wasn’t growing.

While recording my 2022 EP, “Gypsy,” I realized it was time to make a change. Quitting a job that offered so many opportunities and where I was well taken care of was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. I felt like I was letting others down, but deep down, I knew it was the right move. From there, I jumped in headfirst—countless emails, sleepless nights, and pushing myself to go beyond what I had already learned about music. There was so much more to discover, relationships to build, and music to create—and I’m still on that journey. That all brought me to my recent EP, “Hey, it’s Lauren,” nearly two years later. The time between projects gave me the space to really figure out who I wanted to be in my career. Not only did I reconnect with my passion for Country music, but I also realized I wanted more. I wanted to do it all. I wanted to be the songwriter, the producer, the engineer—and that’s where I am now. I’m currently working on my first project that I’ve taken on by myself, knowing and being blessed with the people in my corner who I can turn to for support. The first single is set to drop in May 2025.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being in Northeast Ohio, I would start off with an early morning coffee from Kave Coffee Bar in Barberton. Then, I would recommend a yoga class approximately 10 minutes away at The Center: dance + yoga studio in Kenmore. While in Kenmore, we could stop in shops along Kenmore Blvd. such as Kenmore Komics, Ethicrace Clothing Company, ManiKitchen Tea Shop, and have lunch at Srina Tea House & Cafe. We could also enjoy the incredible hiking trails Northeast Ohio has such as Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Come evening time, we could come back to the Akron area and see a show at The Rialto Theatre, Musica, or Jilly’s Music Room. We could also venture out to Doylestown to see a performance at Blue Macaroon Theater Company, catch live music and an incredible milkshake at George’s Lounge in Canton, or explore the lively scene in downtown Akron or Cuyahoga Falls.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my family for always supporting every artistic path I choose to follow. I don’t come from a musical background, so I’m sure there are times they wonder about my choices, but they never fail to show up for me. Having a support system like that is truly indescribable. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t realize that.

I also want to recognize Wes McCraw for reminding me of my true passion for Country Music and bringing me back to it. He’s so much more than just a musician, producer, or engineer in my life—he’s a true friend. His talent, patience, and kindness are beyond words, and they’ve truly changed my life.
