We had the good fortune of connecting with Leslie Brooks CLC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leslie, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a certified life coach, I aspire to impact the world, by lovingly questioning those who are struggling to choose their needs, by encouraging them to choose their own needs, first. Especially as a woman who has been touched by codependency and compulsive people pleasing myself, I endeavor to be a voice for those who haven’t found theirs yet.
This helps our community by allowing woman and chronic people pleasers, to live a more peace-filled and honest, authentic life. When we have the option to say “Yes” or “No”, or to choose to meet our needs first, it creates a more honest and intimate dynamic, bitterness tends to fall away and peace abounds.

Socially, this creates more honesty, more truthful conversation, and more chances to be known which allows us to access our peace.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Certified Life Coach who truly has a passion for working with women who struggle to choose their needs, and even possibly identify, what those needs look like. I am proud to be working with clients to unravel the identity of the selfless mother/spouse/worker and uncover the true nature of their being. What I think sets me apart, is I also coach mindfulness within the body. I try to bring awareness to the body’s experience, so as not to create disparity between the mind and the body. Having them on the same page is key to success.

The human body has been a large part of my working life. I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist in the State of Ohio since 2005. Professionally, I came out of high school to go to directly to Massage School. I knew I wanted to help people from a very young age. In my time as an LMT, I saw countless women apologizing for needing help, struggling to come in when their issues began, and struggling to choose self care over carpools or others’ needs. After entering into therapy for codependency, following a severely abusive and chaotic relationship, I began to understand what the possible blocks are, for those of us who are compulsive caretakers. From that understanding forward, I have wanted to help women avoid working for their worth, and living their life one apology after another.

The transition into full-time coaching has been difficult. With a thriving massage therapy practice, a toddler, and 10 year old, and my own marriage to give the attention it deserves, time can be limited for me. It is was a inspired goal of mine to get this new life coaching practice thriving, so I can help women find a way back to themselves.

I want the world to know, I am here to help you change the concept of who you perceive you were created to be. When we live in the truth of our existence, we have more ability to protect our own hearts. Selflessness, chaos, and shame do not have to rule your world and challenging the concept of who you compulsively believe are, can remove the blocks to the peaceful, robust life you deserve. You are not what you sacrifice and love is not equal to the pain you’re willing to endure, for those you love.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I highly recommend The Cincinnati Nature Center for a hike. The Geology Trail is beyond my favorite. Its peaceful and serene and grounding. The perfect place to center yourself and practice mindfulness. In the warmer months, I love to kayak The Little Miami River from Loveland to Old Milford.

I also would definitely love a trip to Fulton Grove Winery in Withamsville, OH on a Saturday. Bruce and Brian’s wines are TO DIE FOR! Then out to Cincinnati Distilling or The Birch for dinner in Old Milford/Terrace Park area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without the guidance of Dr. Rick Butts of the Authentic Relationship Center, and the suggested areas of study, I would not have come to understand what a pervasive issue codependency is, especially in the female community. Among his suggested reading was the works of Pia Mellody, including “Facing Love Addiction”, ‘Facing Codependence” and “The Intimacy Factor.”

Also, Dr. Maria Hoeffer ND and Lynn Ellis, Certified Life Coach have very much influenced my spiritual journey on this topic. Between their guidance and suggestions of the works of Bryon Katie and Martha Creek, it cracked the facade of who I was told to be, and it allowed me to see myself as who I was created to be. The most impactful book, was “The Untethered Soul” by Michael A Singer. This book allowed me to unhook from the thoughts and choose peace for myself.
