Meet Lex Smith | Spiritual Consultant, Meditation & Intuitive Guide

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lex Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lex, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My brand, Spiritual U was built with social impact in mind. From its very inception, I knew I wanted to create a space, community, and institution outside of the normal and mundane. On my own journey, I have noticed the lack of depth, purpose, and color that many of us (I’m including myself at one point) find in our everyday lives. I created Spiritual U to encourage my clients, customers, and followers to spark their own inner revolution and by doing so, waking up their spark, authenticity, and magic. I believe the social impact of helping people simply wake up to their authenticity and offer them space to find themselves is the biggest social impact of all. In a world where everything is black and white, yes or no, here vs there, us vs them…pledging to be yourself and recognize who you are at your core is the biggest revolutionary path one can walk down. What I’m attempting achieve with my brand is the homecoming of community through individual self-realization, particularly with women and our post-modern place in society. My brand brand and impact seems to hit particularly well with intuitives, creatives, and neuro-divergent humans who might struggle (like myself) to find where exactly they fit in the world. Through modalities like meditation, shadow work, manifestation, astrology, and energy work, Spiritual U and myself are attempting to make the world better by making it more colorful, accepting, fun and transformative.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My big thing has always been about freedom and liberation. And not just physically, but emotional, mental, spiritual, and creative freedom to make the most out of life. It took me a long time to figure out what freedom feels like, but eventually it all came back to me just wanting to live an authentic life. I always found it so hard and draining to work within the confines of society’s rules. I figured, if I can’t beat society, then I might as well make it bend to my will. That’s where my entrepreneurial journey came in and it has been the biggest self-development journey of my life thus far! Professionally, it can be really hard to hone skills and define your gifts, but I’ve been lucky enough and had enough self awareness to follow the breadcrumbs. If that could be my one piece of advice for anyone…it would be to follow the breadcrumbs layed out on your path! My breadcrumbs lead me down the path of obtaining a yoga and meditation training that lead to working within the wellness industry as a side hustle while I spent 8 years in Marketing. My combination of “big girl jobs” and the “hustle to make my dreams come true” lead me to the right people at the right times. I’m not gonna lie though. Working for yourself isn’t for the weak. Finding your niche isn’t for the weak. My niche and skills now revolve a colorful array of meditation, energy healing, manifestation techniques, spiritual consulting, astrology, oracle card readings and a whole lot of “woo-woo” stuff. And I find so much joy in helping other’s heal and transform through modalities that have been used for thousands of years that I get to put a modern spin on! That to me in freedom and liberation!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop would be Paloma for a little spa and wellness experience to really relax and unwind. After getting a massage or facial at Paloma, I’m stopping over in Clintonville and hitting up Rock Candy Healing Stones, Brass Hands, and Wild Cat for some fun small business and local shopping. After a long day of shopping, dinner would be at Hubbards in the Short North! Their Brussels sprouts are to die for and they have the best charcuterie appetizers! My evening would be wrapped up at Blue Note Jazz Club for live music and cocktails!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to shoutout Stella Giometti and Angela Gann, the incredible and fierce owners of Paloma! I met them in 2021, about a year after Paloma opened in the heart of the pandemic. I was ready to get back out into the community and share my expertise. From day one of meeting them both, they took the biggest chance me and trusted me with their precious baby and let Paloma become my playground for offering meditation, healing, and community building. Not only have Stella and Angela built an amazing healing space within Paloma’s iconic Dome, but also diligently and intentionally invested their hearts and souls into creating the most luxurious spa and wellness experience in Ohio. I may be biased, but Stella and Angela are the MVPs of business ownership, creative endeavors, leadership, and risk taking. To be in their presence is to feel yourself growing and developing into your best self. I truly owe a huge chunk of my career to them. For them, its never about competition or ego, but rather asking how can we all come together to heal and transform our community!
