We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa McCraw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I’ve been a pro photographer for over 15 years. I’ve been very lucky and honored over the years to have captured the most amazing people. I think in the end, people just need to know they’re genuinely cared for. I would probably rather have a root canal than be on the other side of the camera and having empathy for people’s insecurities at having their image taken is key to bringing out the best in people. I also believe a true love for what you do is contagious. If you’re having fun, so will others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always had a love of art and photography. My Uncle, who was the art department head of a major university always encouraged me to express myself creatively. I began my pro career years ago working for another company where I learned the ins and outs of running an actual photography company. This experience was invaluable to starting my own company. In the business of photography, it’s easy to get carried away by the art of it and as important as it is to learn and remain relevant, it’s equally important to remember it’s a business as well. My company quickly grew and soon I was photographing weddings all over the world. I’m proud of the awards and kind words I’ve received over the years.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s an easy one… First, we would spend as much time as possible at the Cleveland Art Museum- it’s beyond amazing. Then, we’d see what concerts/bands were playing at the local venues. Cleveland/Akron is a music Mecca! We’d be sure to stop in Lakewood, Ohio to eat some artisan food. Lastly, we’d spend some time walking in some of the most amazing metro parks such as the Brecksville Reservation or Silvercreek Park. The perfect week!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so blessed to be surrounded by a team of pro photographers working under my brand. We’ve been working together for many years and we still are inspired by one another. I can always count on each and everyone of them for support, love, and laughter. They are family.
