Meet Louise Erdeljohn | Headshot/Portrait Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Louise Erdeljohn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Louise, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Reinvent myself, My journey.
I started to write this about reinventing yourself since most of my clients are doing just that.
Then I thought that maybe it would be interesting to know that I did this eight years ago.
That transformative journey doesn’t always start with a clear goal in mind. It could begin when something needs to change. I was stuck in a daily time loop. Nothing is changing, yet needing everything to change. My weight, my hair, my clothes, my job, the way I am parenting, my finances. My overall lack of joy in life. Jeesh! I was overwhelmed with where to begin.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a photographer specializing in headshots and portraits. I studied analog photography in art school. I take great pride in my work, which involves utilizing lighting techniques to highlight your best features and present you in the most favorable manner possible. I do spend hours practicing my craft to make it appear effortless. I have had a lot of failures along the way, and many times, I had to overcome the feelings of failure, humiliation, and those thoughts that maybe this just may not work out. I enjoy the craft and art of photography, so it is not something I would stop doing. When I enjoy something, even if it’s challenging, I work much harder to perfect it. I work equally hard for each individual in front of my camera regardless of job or job cost.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are many beautiful and fun areas in our city. We have a wonderful riverwalk along the Ohio River in Cincinnati, which is known for its riverfront culture. Recently, I went on a dinner river cruise on the BB riverboat and it was a great experience. Cincinnati has numerous parks, and Ault Park is a personal favorite of mine due to its beauty and photographer-friendly environment. For beer lovers, the city has a thriving brewery scene, and each suburb has its own unique offerings. In terms of culture, Cincinnati has a great orchestra and ballet. We also host concerts and ballgames, which mostly take place in the city itself.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I needed to find my people or just one person to start. I can’t do much in this world alone. I held a really crappy job most of my adult life, but the people I worked with were the best. These women were the first I asked to help me build a portfolio and help me by explaining the current social technology. I thank my Computer engineer sons for all things computer-related.Oldest childhood friends for support. It can take a village, but embarrassment aside, I had to ask for help.
