Meet Macy Jacob | Actor & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Macy Jacob and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Macy, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I think most people are unaware of how easy it is to actually start acting or filmmaking. It seems like there are all types of barriers to becoming successful in the industry, which is true, but there are really no barriers at all to start creating. Making your own videos, writing your own scripts, acting out your own story, these are all ways of expressing your creativity and passion. You are allowed to be “bad” at things. This is the only way to get started, unless you are extremely lucky!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I still have a long way to go in this industry, but I am really proud of where I’ve gotten so far. I want to share that it is possible to start acting without having an agent or a family in the industry. I started taking acting classes, which helped me learn a lot about acting and the business. Then, I used websites like Actors Access and Backstage to start getting jobs. I would submit to any and every job available, work for free on student films, and travel across country to work on a very low budget movie. But I learned a lot of lessons, and I learned my value as an actor. The place I’m at now was not easy to get to, and where I go from here won’t be easy either. I think that anything in life worth doing is not easy. But for me, creating art through film, acting, and pursuing my passion makes it worth it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are a lot of great things to do in Toledo. My most favorite of all would probably be the Toledo Art Museum. So if you were visiting for a week, I would say the museum, going to a Walleye game, depending on the season the Toledo Ribbon for ice skating, and taking a ride on The Sandpiper.
If you’re hungry I would suggest any of the local coffee shops, specifically Black Kite Coffee or Rustbelt Coffee. Then you have to get scones and pastries from Jera’s Heavenly Sweet Bakery, and have dinner at Souk Mediterranean Kitchen!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family deserves all the credit really. Without the support of my parents, my sister Mariesa, and my boyfriend Leslie, I would not have the confidence and courage to follow my dream. I know they will always love and support me, even if I fail. When I’m stressing about an audition, need to read lines with someone, or trying to understand a contract, my family is always there to help me in every way they can.
