Meet Madison Ledyard-King | Actor & Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Ledyard-King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because I hold a high value for self-expressionism and being able to share a part of myself with the world around me. I think this is truly the greatest way of letting go. Letting go of all of the turmoil and complexities we face in our day-today lives. To be able to express ones inner thoughts, dialogues, perspectives, opinions, etc. through art is such a transformative experience not only for the person sharing it, but also the receiver. It’s so reassuring see a point of view that you can relate to reflected through art. And even being able to get a deep introspective look into one that is foreign to you. It is truly a gift.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I love most in my work as an artist is my ability to consistently find ways to challenge myself. Whether that be acting on screen or on stage. Currently, I am most excited to be making my on stage debut in Cleveland, OH with a Seat of the Pants production of the satirical and scathing ‘Trouble in Mind,’ written by Alice Childress. It’s a play set during rehearsals for a major Broadway production, that illuminates the inner life of a Black actress struggling with her career. As Wiletta grapples with how she’s treated, the role she’s being asked to play, and what the production says (or doesn’t) about race in America, her growing discomfort sets off a chain of events that reveal fissures within the acting company — and bring her into conflict with her director. The show will be playing at the LatinUs Theater Company from November 3rd to the 19th.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Recently, I have been obsessed with Ohio City. There is so much to do in that area and it is brimming with scenery to inspire any creative. One of my favorite spots to go to in Ohio City is Juneberry Table. Would definitely recommend.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t have the mindset and confidence I have now to pursue what I want to do if it wasn’t for the great friends I’ve made during my time at Kent State University, where I studied Digital Media Production with a minor in Theater Performance. Shoutout to all of you. You know who you are! Haha!
