We had the good fortune of connecting with Mara Delirium and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mara, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
To be humble. It’s perfectly acceptable to be proud of what you do, and to have great pride in your work, but to have a huge ego or be high and mighty is guaranteed to be the downfall of what could be a great artist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I am certainly wasn’t easy. There were so many bumps in the road. Truthfully, there still are many bumps that I’m dealing with. I just had to keep pushing forward and disregard those that didn’t support my journey. What I’ve learned is that if people close to you don’t support you when you’re at the bottom, they aren’t worth bringing with you to the top. I want the world to know that I’m not scary, I don’t deserve to be scoffed at or disregarded because I look different from the norm or chose a path for myself that isn’t “standard.” I’m a person just like everyone else, simply with different interests than most.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really don’t know. I’m a huge introvert, I always have been. My idea of a good time is having some good food (usually something I’ll cook!) and sitting at a park or looking at the stars. I enjoy relaxing things, so I tend to think of quiet places in nature. Enjoying a hot Chai latte by a bonfire is so fantastic when the weather gets chilly.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a few, some who are no longer with us. The most instrumental people that taught me so much are/were Dave Kelso, “Druthulu”, Holly Foutch, Revina Lower, Chase Campbell, and Steve Haworth. They’re all such wonderful people, and are all so humble and welcoming.
