We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisa Bowen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marisa, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I hope everyone remembers me as love. I think the true meaning of love is unconditional, meaning there isn’t anything you can do that makes you any more worthy or less worthy of love. I hope that I freely give that love to all in my life and that they’ll remember me for how I loved them where they were for the simple fact that they’re worthy of love not based off their actions, efforts, or works.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would describe myself as an intuitive cosmetologist. To be an intuitive in my opinion means to be in touch with ones self on a deeper level that you’re able to make good decisions based off of how the situation feels and understanding energy.
As a licensed cosmetologist & an intuitive naturally I understand how powerful the two together can be!
Being able to ebb and flow with the salon environment and be actively present with each individual each day while doing a good job altering their appearance with science and math can be a lot to juggle at one time for anybody which is why I find being in touch with myself a very important practice to maintain. I have found the more I honor myself and stay true to my current self it seems to carry over artistically and positively for my clients as well. Raising the vibrations if you will!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend wasn’t from the area & we had a full week to explore we would of course kick the week off with a nourishing and relaxing hair appointment at Deacon Hair Co. Followed up with brunch and coffee at Paper City Coffee for a cozy catch-up!
I definitely couldn’t leave out a beautiful hike in one of my favorite spots Leo Petroglyphs.
I would finish the evening out with dinner and drinks at Garcia’s.
The next day we’d ride the trolley from our gorgeous Yoctangee Park up to Chillicothe’s charming downtown to have breakfast at The Coop.
We’d do a little shopping at Chillicothe Creative Collective for the most unique local art, inspire ourselves with some books from Wheatberry Books, pamper ourselves with some organic goodies from Maggie’s Farm, Grab a few loose tea blends from Tea Of Life Apothecary and finish the evening catching up at a record store party at Apollo Records.
We’d spend the next day thrifting and antiquing while enjoying the soda bar and pinball machines at Chillicothe Antique Emporium followed by a delicious late lunch at The Old Canal Smokehouse then take our bikes for an evening ride around our charming town and floodwall while patio hopping our favorite local bars for the best drinks- Steiner’s Speakeasy, 50 West, and Old Capital Brewery.
I’d finish off our week a little more relaxing with enjoying some of the activities our local library offers in their beyond the books rentals like ghost hunting equipment, or a telescope.
Of course it wouldn’t be a perfect week without a little yoga at Explorer Yoga and a massage from Nikki Boggs at Om Shanti.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely say a lot of my success is possible due to the people I’m surrounded by! I have an amazing circle of totally encouraging, free to be yourself & flourish loved ones!
My husband Cassel has always supported me in ways I never realized I needed support in.
I’m very thankful for my family that has allowed me to find myself and be as eccentric as my heart desires!
My salon family is such a grounding group of creative individuals which has breed this environment to nurture your true self boldly in the most loving way!
And of course none of this would be possible without my amazing clients that trust me! I find sitting in someone’s chair a very vulnerable situation and I try to always recognize that with my clients and honor them as individuals and I can say that is very much reciprocated.
