We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Moats and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, my first LLC Entwined Recordings is for music and recording. I run that as an independent label and recording studio. I started that just due to the amount of time and money I have spent and currently spend on music related items.

Entwined Properties is my latest business adventure. I recently bought, completely remodeled, and flipped my first house. I plan on doing it again in 2024. After all the hard work it has proven worth it and definitely lucrative for me. I work as a Certified Compounding Pharmacy Technician by day, and as I continue to be successful flipping houses that will lead me to work less as a CPhT and more working for myself.

What should our readers know about your business?
My drive comes from growing up in poverty. The memories of moving from house to house, living in the projects, no phone, no heat, no water, only fuels me to do more. Now that I have broken the cycle, moved away from that black hole of a town, I have found and fostered opportunity. It was never easy, hard work, and trusting myself to find a way to get things done one way or another has led me this far.

My hope is to inspire anyone reading this that hates the circumstances of their life or feels stuck, to let them know there is a way out. Make a plan even if its little-by-little progress, eventually that will become stage by stage. You will run into obstacles that make it feel someone or something is trying to prevent your success, however, stay the course and push through, figure it out, believe in yourself, and stick to the plan.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
During the day the legendary Mill Creek Park that starts from the westside for Youngstown and runs parallel to the southside. Plenty of hiking trails, fishing, and kayaking opportunities.

The night life would be Westside Bowl hands down. Westside Bowl as described is on the westside of Youngstown. Previously only a bowling alley that has been renovated into the only professional sounding music venue in the area. The main stage is on the first level with few bowling lanes next to it, along with an arcade, and a record store. There is also 2nd smaller stage downstairs, but still with top notch sound. The food and drinks are great as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to say my long time significant other Devan has been supportive of everything I have done. With out support, it would make it difficult to do what I do. She also assisted with some outside the box thinking during the renovation.
