We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
With all the division we face as a society, from reproductive rights and political issues, to the debate between Android and iPhone-people, I hope that comedy continues to be a space where we can all feel safe to laugh, express ourselves, and regulate our emotions in a healthy way. When there’s some truth to the telling of a joke, it can help people in similar experiences feel seen.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started formally writing jokes in 2016. In the first 5 years, paired with my drinking, there were plenty of ups and downs. Countless relationships, personal and professional, had been damaged, and not all have since been repaired. After getting sober, I was also re-diagnosed as an adult, with severe ADHD. I try to be an advocate now, for anyone with mental health struggles, and to set a good example. My personal experiences continue to be where I draw most of my material from.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best community I’ve been a part of, has to be the local disc golf community. The group of guys that I play with have always been warm, welcoming, and above all, kind. I truly consider them family. A round of disc golf is generally free, and since we have beautiful park systems, it’s a zen-like past time. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Cavaliers and Guardians games are a blast, and we have a phenomenal arts and theatre district downtown as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be anywhere today without my immediate family and best friends. Three years ago, my parents had a ‘lil intervention with me to address my drinking issues. I was hiding the DTs, (delirium tremors) and seizures, it was so bad. I agreed to go to detox, in critical condition. I owe my new lease on life-to them.
