We had the good fortune of connecting with MMR and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MMR, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, there is a bit of an age gap between us three siblings, but we always connected over our love of movies. We were at our parents a few summers ago and in our conversations, we tend to reference movie quotes. We then thought up the idea for Mixed Movie Reviews. The name has a double meaning referring to us being biracial kids and when we discuss one of our movies our reviews tend to be mixed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So this artistic medium of podcasting, anybody can do it, you just have to have something to say. That is probably the hardest thing to determine when starting out. In our podcast, we are not just discussing movies and giving a rundown of what we think about them but we also have the unique perspective of being siblings, biracial siblings, and biracial siblings growing up throughout two different generations. This gives the show many viewpoints, thoughts, feelings, and films to pull from. In many of our discussions, we go off on a tangent, where something in the movie, sparks a memory from our childhood and then that is how we get to learn more about each other. The biggest challenge was learning to be efficient with our time! Starting off some of the episodes would take us close to three hours to discuss a movie half that length. We would spend so much time ripping and derailing each other that whoever had to cut it had a Herculean task ahead of them. What do we want the world to know about us? We are very aware that we are not the only movie podcast out there and we are not trying to reinvent the podcast wheel. We just want to brighten someone’s day and make them feel like a part of our family whenever they listen to an episode.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So, seeing as there are three of us, making up this podcast we probably go to some of our favorite breakfast spots, Emmett’s Café, Mercury Diner, and Hangover Easy. After we were totally stuffed, probably do some Thrifting and Plant shopping at Plants n’ Tings. Maybe drive up to Toledo to visit the glass museum or hike down in Old Man’s Cave.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We know that it might be a little cliché, but we would like to give a shout out to our mom and dad. Growing up they did everything they could to give us creative outlets and encourage our individuality. We would also like to shout out their leniency regarding allowing us to watch films far beyond our years, which we believe helped shape our sense of humor and take things not so seriously.
