We had the good fortune of connecting with Mollie Mason and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mollie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because I love the freedom of being creative. I originally went to school to be an Elementary teacher. I also painted as a hobby. I ended up slightly changing my career to be an Elementary Art Teacher. I started my own art business two years ago by accepting painting commissions. I challenged my self by live wedding painting for couples in the Cleveland area. I love the freedom and happiness I feel in creating artwork for people. I also love teaching my students how to enjoy art as much as I do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the most proud and excited about Live Wedding Painting. I think live painting is a very unique niche and my audience enjoys it the most. I got where I am today by working hard, but at my own pace. I started by building my own website and posting frequently on social media. I started by having friends and family members commission work from me. Now, I am commissioned by strangers that reach out through social media and my website! One of the main challenges is balancing work and home life. I am married with a preschooler and a new baby, so I haven’t had as much time to work on commissions lately. Anytime I get a little free time, I try to squeeze in a painting session! I learned to go slow and steady. Building a business that is successful does not happen overnight.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to the Foundry in Elyria for dinner. I would also head out to Crocker Park in Westlake to go shopping! Afterwards, we could go to Dave & Busters to play games.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I credit my stepmom, Kame, for getting me started painting and being creative. She invited me to paint with her one day and I really took off with it. I went out the next day and bought all my own supplies. I even changed my day job to be focused around art!
