We had the good fortune of connecting with Murr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Murr, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve chosen the path of an artist because it’s who I am. Any other path wouldn’t be true to me and therefore, wouldn’t be so satisfying. I grew up a huge fan of bands and artists from a variety of a genres, and eventually realized expressing myself through music comes pretty naturally. It’s become an outlet and a release for me. I’d say it wasn’t really a conscious choice to pursue music as a career, rather a gradual evolution into my most authentic self.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music is all very intuitive, meaning I don’t think too long and hard about what I’m creating; it’s just a feeling. That creates a profound sense of liberation as to what it will sound like or feel like to others. I think that’s a large reason my music has such a strong blend of moods and genres. I’m not keeping myself in a box of what I want to create or what listeners hope for. I’m just doing what’s natural and it’s been working well for me.

The biggest challenge and lesson I’ve learned is to take the pressure off of myself in regards to how quickly I develop musically and remember that I was a human before I was an artist. It’s easy to get caught into the other stuff like praise, criticism or ideas for the future. But I know I’m at my best when I’m just being myself and letting the rest fall into place.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they’re a friend of mine, they probably like live music, so I’d take them to some of my favorite local venues for music: CODA Tremont, Mahall’s in Lakewood and Crobar in Cleveland.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, my brother and my girlfriend for sure. They’ve been supporting my creativity since day one. A parents have allowed me to set up a studio room in their basement. That’s where I do most of my recording. And when I’m in and out of the studio, my girlfriend has my back and encourages me, even if it means late nights.

Also shoutout to my fans, new and old. They keep me confident and inspired as I just do my best to be me.
