We had the good fortune of connecting with Nate Eberhardt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nate, why did you pursue a creative career?

I chose to pursue an artistic career to fully express myself. Being from Cleveland I’ve always been exposed to Rock N Roll and the Hall of Fame we have here in the city. I felt I had a calling for music at 19 years old. I was in college at the time and took various art classes to find my way. I decided to drop out of college and pursue music wholeheartedly. At that point in my life, I was on a quest for self-discovery and self-determination. I taught myself how to play Bass and Guitar and was lucky enough to have friends who needed a bass player. It was my duty to be a part of history. Now I’m a solo artist under the name “Nature Nvoke” working on my debut album. I’ve come a long way and have so far to go.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

The thing I’m most proud of is my sobriety, by having a clear head I can be present to be a great friend, leader, son, partner, and lastly a great artist. I don’t judge anyone who still drinks, I’ve been down that road before and can empathize with their story. I overcame this obstacle by maintaining a positive attitude and doing the necessary work required to be the best version of myself. I began reading more during my recovery and started to study philosophy which strengthened my positive self-talk. I want the world to know that you can overcome anything life throws at you and never judge a person for where they stand because you never know how hard it was for them to get there.

I’m excited for my debut album, it’s been a long journey but I feel it expresses my determination and can show my potential for the future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

My favorite places in Cleveland would be the Cleveland Art Museum, Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and our lovely music venues Grog Shop, Beachland etc. My favorite place to eat in the city would be Algebra Tea House, I love the cozy environment and the menu is phenomenal!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I would like to take this opportunity to shout out my dear friends from Mourning [A] Blackstar. The mentorship I received from them could never be left out. RA Washington and Latoya Kent played a major role in my development as an artist in our Cleveland Music Scene. I lived at this DIY recording studio on the west side of Cleveland once I dropped out of college. I met them while living at that house and admired how they were disciplined in their craft and how they carried themselves. I aspired to be legendary like them one day. But it all didn’t happen overnight, Latoya would perform live shows with me in the early stages of my solo career and helped me through those difficult times. I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without their help and guidance. Also, I would like to shout out Sharlese Metcalf from KEXP radio station out in Seattle. Sharlese has always been a supporter and inspiration during my development as an artist. I couldn’t thank her enough for her support and belief in me during times when I’ve had to soul-search to become the best version of myself.
