Meet Nathan Kerney | Northeast Ohio Vlogger

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Kerney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nathan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When we started visiting Cedar Point back in 2021 as adults with small children, there really wasn’t any content on YouTube directed for parents with kids. Most of the content was focused on their roller coasters, which is understandable since it is the Roller Coaster Capital of the World! But Cedar Point has so much more than roller coasters and I wanted to share that with the rest of the community. So I saw that one of their hotels and Waterpark, Castaway Bay, was opening after a long closure with COVID, and brought my camera for our very first video at Castaway Bay !

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We love taking trips as a family to new theme parks! At the end of the day, we really love seeing our kids with smiling faces, and theme parks are really a great time for our kids to enjoy rides, food, and shows!

I think what really sets our content apart is that we spend the time to find out what’s important for our viewers and create content around it.

So far, we still feel like a new channel, and we are. We just keep doing what we love and making videos along the way!

It’s definitely not easy. It would be easier just to be a consumer and enjoy the park for ourselves. Taking the time to record footage, edit videos, and post content really is a full time job.

Some big challenges are balancing content creation with spending quality time in the parks with family. It’s important to enjoy time in theme parks and not simply be creating content a 100% of the time.

I think I would want the world to know to pick a hobby that takes your mind off work and daily life stress. For me, hopping in the car and heading to a theme park with my kids does just that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the Roller Coaster Capital of the World, Cedar Point! Staying at Hotel Breakers is one of the best theme park hotels in the country since it’s steps from both the park and water park with amazing views of Lake Erie on the Cedar Point Beach! Between riding some of the best roller coasters in the country to multiple kids themed rides and a water park, there’s so much to do!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big shoutout to my wife Krystal. She puts up with all my crazy Kerney-cation trips to theme parks, time spent editing, and filming in the parks. It is NOT easy filming content with two toddlers running around and she has been great!

Also a big shoutout to Tony Clark and Cedar Point for taking a chance on our channel. We were accepted into the Cedar Point content creator program with only like 3 live YouTube videos. Cedar Point has always been adamant about good content vs number of subscribers, so it’s great they give small channels an opportunity!

We were not expecting to be accepted, but we were so happy when we were and it’s helped us grow our channel and audience.
