Meet Nick Galbincea | Vocalist and Guitarist of Wake Magnolia

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Galbincea and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The goal for me personally in my music career has always been to simply write, record and release the best music that I can. I’m very grateful over the years for the shows that Wake Magnolia has played, the awards and recognition that we have received, and every single person that has listened to our music and/ or attended a concert. I think most people would answer this question by stating that they want to become “Rock Stars” or rich and famous. For me it truly is just creating and releasing music. It brings me joy and fulfillment doing this simply put. So my “end goal” really is just to keep playing, recording, and releasing music till the day I die.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Wake Magnolia was started in 2017 and spawned from a band from high school. I usually describe Wake Magnolia’s sound as dirty melodic rock and compare our sound as a mashup of Alice in Chains and Silversun Pickups, but as our sound has developed over the years, I truly think we just sound like us and I’m proud to say that. In 2018 we released our “Smile Anyway” EP and in 2022 we released our first studio record, “Shadow Cast Light” which was recorded at Superior Sound Studios in Cleveland, OH by multi-platinum producer Jim Wirt. I’m very proud of both these pieces of art and I cannot wait to get back into the studio to record album #2! Over the years Wake Magnolia has been interviewed and reviewed by several magazines, radio stations and podcasts. I think of all the accolades that we have received, the one that I am most proud of is winning best rock band in the 2022 Cleveland Music Awards. To be able to say that you are “the best rock band” (which there are so many awesome artists) in the city that founded rock n roll is humbling and amazing. But overall, I’m just proud of the music, I love making and playing music!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow, I wasn’t expecting this question haha. I would definitely take them on a hike in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It is such a gorgeous park right in our backyards. We probably would then get some pizza either from Luigi’s, Euro Gyro or Mr. Zubs and head to a concert either at Musica in Akron or The Foundry in Cleveland (my personal two favorite music venues in the area).
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people that I’m grateful for and that have helped and supported my music career over the years. My family and friends over the years have shown a lot of love and support. Our fans and the new faces that I meet at every show I’m extremely grateful for, but I think the answer that I will give, bear with me here, is music itself. I fell in love with music when I was around 10 or 11 and I got my first guitar when I was 14. I remember the feeling of playing the guitar for the first times, the power and the energy that would flow through me was unbelievable. It was truly a drug, like Christmas morning compartmentalized in sound. Music has been there for me when life was good and not so good, I could depend on it and still do to this day. I could use it to take pain, anger, happiness, joy, excitement, anxiety and create something positive. Something that was me. I use music as a medium for how I deal with my emotions and life events. It’s my therapy. I couldn’t imagine life without it. So, I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to music. Cheers!
