We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noah, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My latest release Way Back is a song about LOVE and for the longest time in my life I didn’t even give myself permission to write love songs. I started focusing my songwriting and live performances around something I heard along the way that if its not a HECK YES then its a HECK NO. I stopped writing with random people all the time and focused on the people who I care about and they care about me and we love to write together. The music industry can make you feel like theres never ENOUGh but the truth is its all about winning at life and business. I don’t play music and then live life I live my life and music is a part of it. It looks me years to realize that and if you do it the other way it’s a really strange journey.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently am really excited to continue to release new music and hit the road as hard and heavy as we can in 2024. We got hit pretty hard during the shut down days. My band and I were touring 12 states and Canada for a few years and then the bottom dropped out. That allowed me to reset and focus on songwriting more than ever and I think the months to come are going to be unlike anything my fans have ever seen. Our small steps are someone else’s big dreams is something I am constantly reminding myself. My 19 year old self would be pretty stoked that I have now been to Europe twice to share my music and writing songs with hit songwriters and get to make music with my best friends. It’s been a long time since the garage days but we are still loving every second of it. We just drink less orange soda now 🙂

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would tell them to make sure to hit my songwriter show The Crooner Circus which happens every Third Thursday at Big Ash Brewing. It’s one of the most special shows Cincinnati has ever had and we have had over 300 songwriters play the stage over the past 5 years. Before the show I’d tell them to grab some Skyline and if the boys are in town go catch a Reds or Bengals Game. Cincinnati is on fire the past couple years and it’s really exciting to see the momentum shift and culturally I really think the city is in a wonderful place right now.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to the Big Ol Family! These folks are my ride or die fans, here for the journey and the true searchers and believers in my music. On any given show day in any given room there could be fans show up from 4-5 different states. It happens all the time and that kind of loyal following and support has been a true blessing. I launched my fan membership experience a few years back and have a growing following on Patreon that are literally helping fund my music and allowing me to cut songs at a higher rate of speed. The literally say they want more music and their financial support monthly allows that to happen. Yes could I do this without “them” (maybe) but the truth is I don’t want to. I have the best fans on the planet!
