Meet Noelle Morovich | Pet Sitter/Dog Walker/Dog Trainer/Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Noelle Morovich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Noelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew from the time I was a small child I wanted to own and operate a small business. I have always had a strong connection with cats & dogs and had been doing pet care on the side for many years. My associates degree is in small business management & with my background in the mortgage industry and understanding finances I not only have the gift of understanding cat and dog behavior but the knowledge of how to run a successful business. Prior to starting the business I helped run another pet sitting company and I saw many errors that owner was making that I knew I could only correct if I had my own business. It was then that I knew it was time to start my own pet sitting and dog training business so I could ensure that all clients were being provided the absolute best quality pet care, my staff was being treated fairly & the business would be financially profitable & run with true integrity. So I officially founded Paws in the Land in July of 2019.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
While there are many wonderful pet sitting companies in the Cleveland area a few things that set Paws in the Land apart from the others:
We put a major focus on providing pet care for clients who are in their residencies or fellowships at CCF & UH. We understand that they work long hours & have hectic varying schedules & are often under appreciated. So to ease their stress, we strive to be able to provide pet sitting and dog walking services that can accommodate their varying hectic schedules & also offer a special discount program specifically for resident doctors to accommodate their budget constraints. We love our resident doctor clients!
Our focus is always on what is best for the pets in our care above all else. So we do continuing education to keep up our knowledge on pet safety and health and behavior. Often we identify a health concern before a pet parent even notices and they we are able to advise the pet parent on getting their pets to the vet sooner so health issues can be handled promptly. If we notice a better way to handle a behavioral issue we educate the pet parents on safe methods to handle a variety of issues.
To keep things extra fun we have a whole variety of themed pet props to make visits extra fun and also offer themed photo shoots to our clients. Some examples of the themes are: Halloween, Christmas, Princess, Stranger Things, Mean Girls, Game of Thrones, Rock Star, Doctor, Birthday, St. Patty’s Day, Summer Pool Party & so much more.
Because of my own healing journey with being diagnosed with CPTSD & anxiety I have a in depth of understanding of triggers and exposure and desensitization tactics to help the brain learn positive associations with triggers. These same concepts actually cross over into the dog world. It is why I am known for being particularly good with working with and helping anxious dogs and cats.
Starting a business 6 months before COVID hit was a huge challenge. In one day in 2020 we lost $20k in booked business. So I had to immediately get creative and think how to solve this. That’s when I started to put a bigger focus on the medical world because they were all working long hours during the pandemic so they still needed pet care. I also reached out to any clients who were still working and asked them to continue services if their income situation hadn’t changed, that’s when I added in the photo shoot and prop/theme ideas. Also temporarily during that time was offering other services like basic yard work or cleaning, anything to keep revenue coming in. That is how we survived and ended up continuing to grow through Covid when many other pet sitting businesses were failing, we were still growing.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned since 2019 is to unapologetically live my life authentically and run the business the same way. Never be afraid to stand up for my staff when a client is in the wrong and visa versa when a staff member is in the wrong handle that professionally and always make it right with the client. It is also important to realize not all clients are good clients and sometimes for the well being of the business and other clients it is best to cut ties with problematic clients.
What I want the world to know about our brand: Paws in the Land stands for the safety and happiness of all pets. For any pets in our care to have the absolute best care and most fun possible. We also whole heartedly believe in diversity, equity and inclusion and have taken a blatant stance on this. We love people of all races, genders, ethnicities, religions. We support immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, women, people of all races. We stand against hate and believe people should only be judged based on how they treat other people and how they treat animals.
