Meet Paul Yerian | Co-Founder / Co-Owner @ Chop Shop Cards

We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Yerian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Trading cards, Electrical wires, Glue. Yeah, those usually do not go together, but now they do. The novel Chop Shop Cards company has bridged a union between technology and culture. If it can be printed on a trading card, we can chop it. We have used cards with live-action characters to cartoon characters, Pokemon to Magic The Gathering, Disney Lorcana to the Cleveland Browns. We cross all generations and genera and with a simple modification with LED lights, we are able to transform a traditional trading card into a curated collector’s item. Now all those trading cards that are boxed away can be pulled out.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We have prided ourselves on being the first. Currently, we are the only company providing this as an option for someone to add to their collection. There are others out there that can modify a trading card or a toon card, they will do it “commissioned/for commission” which basically means a custom order for you. Some are very skilled and talented and are the best at what they do. Typically a trading card modifier will use 6-8 of the same card to cut pieces out of and stack to create a 3D effect. For us we only use 3 of the same card. We use this because of how the card is created. One card is used as a border, second card is used as a background and the third card is chopped up and stacked on the second card. We use the additional pieces from the center that we cut out of the border card but really that is it. We don’t want to spend too much on cards we are going to be cutting and gluing and basically destroying.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For myself living in Brunswick Ohio just 20 minutes from downtown Cleveland. First place to take a outta towner would definitely be Sweets and Geeks in Medina. That place has so much and its so clean. They will have competitions there and very family-friendly atmosphere. So many unique items packed inside. I cant leave without buying something or suffering from SBT “shoulda bought that” complications.
Then hit up Marz Cards in Brunswick for some sports cards. These guys have a huge open concept store. They hold alot of card breaks or pack breaks. I cant say enough good things about how well they are continuing to be a staple in Brunswick Ohio.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I single handedly have to give my wife a huge shoutout. Stephanie Yerian, has been supportive of this journey since the beginning. She has remained calm while I went crazy over a card. She has held down the house and the children in the evenings while I would cut cards. I won’t ever be able to thank her enough.
