We had the good fortune of connecting with ProtoJ THA ThreaT and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ProtoJ THA ThreaT, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always have enjoyed music and how it brings people together. I personally enjoy the therapeutic side to it. I can vent my emotions, portray a picture, and relate to people around the globe. I love being able to show people different perspectives by layering the details into the lyrics as well as the beats. If I’m able to possibly help someone’s day for the better, by putting out my art, it’s most definitely worth it to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I personally have been through a lot in my life. I want people who listen and watch what I do with my art to all have a common understanding. I portray my art differently than most. I wear a mask not to hide my face, but to embrace what’s underneath. What I mean by that is, I can look like a zombie or whatever you want to say I look like, but if you listen to the lyrics and, find it relatable, you’ll forget all about looks. You feel energy, you see my soul, you see and hear my story. I may have different thoughts and approaches, but I share my experiences with others both good and bad to help them pave a smoother road for their future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would be taking people all over the place. From the bricks to the backwoods, I would show them what it’s like to be in such an amazing area. I definitely would show them what Hick Hop really means. In Cincinnati and the tri-state area, the possibilities are endless as to what we are privileged enough to be able to do. I can go on and on about interesting things to do and places to see, but I would literally just go with the flow in the moment and make the most of it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to shoutout Qwavais’e Sneed and Team Q for helping me out with not only personal struggles, but being there to show me how to make any negative situations into positive ones with music. Kyle Otto at Dark Heart Records has been amazing and patient with the production process as well as going as far as explaining the “WHYs” on how to do things. That’s why I have nothing but respect for him. Also, I thank A.K.S. for doing his thing and motivating me to make the next step towards putting my music out to the world. I would probably have just kept bottling up my thoughts and emotions which wouldn’t benefit myself or others. I just want to shoutout Cincinnati artists for real. I have nothing but love for everyone involved.

King Sosa 8000. That guy matches my energy and kn9ws exactly what emotions are a part of my journey. Definitely an under-rated and overlooked artist. He deserves many of flowers and, he is as close to Tunechi as you can find.
