Meet Rachael Jordan | Artist, creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachael Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachael, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Creating art has been with me since I was a child, doodling on homework and daydreaming instead of doing the real grade school homework. As I went through high school and vocational school, I graduated with the yearbook title as most artistic after winning the new school logo design competition. Finishing college was now a top priority, after switching majors from Architectural Engineering to Graphics Design. My desired career path was to work in the creative arts field. Art has always been important to me. I’m focused on creating rarities and teaching workshops to help other artists on their creative journey.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What keeps me busy is my refining my painting skills with watercolor, acrylic, and oils. I’m continually building my body of work as I rotate new work regularly to display at the Pendleton Art Center studio 414. I encourage everyone to visit the studios at the Pendleton Art Center, which is open to the public from 5 pm – 9 pm the last Friday of every month. I am also teaching watercolor workshops at The Funky Sunshine tie dye boutique that is offered on the last Wednesday of every month. Please go to Rarityworks.com to view the virtual gallery and for additional information to schedule a class today.
Lastly, I’ve also created the Artist Trading Cards of Cincinnati Club where local artists can trade their cards and collaborate with other artists. You can also find additional information about the ATC Club on Rarityworks.com
Biggest Lessons Learned ?
I think it’s to stay motivated even if your path seems like a dead end. Keep foraging, keep refining the authenticity in you. Fill your thoughts with never give up and journal your goals every day. Create a vision board of what you are trying to achieve. As you write down your desires, they will soon manifest into your reality. Before you know it, doors will start to open for you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Without a doubt, the Cincinnati Art Museum, you can see ancient artifacts and impressionist paintings from the 1800’s and renaissance eras and much more!
And of course, you must see the Pendleton Art Center, which houses over 200 artists within 8 floors located in OTR Cincinnati. And again, is only open the last Friday of every month from 5-9pm with valet parking. So be sure to clear your schedule for the last Friday of every month.
Cincinnati has a huge selection of great restaurants. A few of my favorites are Sleepy Bee, Cloud 9, and Andy’s Mediterranean.
Of course as a Cincinnati native, we would have to go to Graeter’s Ice cream, and the famous Cincinnati style Skyline chill.
With regards to hanging out, we would have to go to Smale park, the Banks, and Washington Park just to name a few.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give shout outs to Nancy Hopkins of studio 414 at the Pendleton Art Center, Elizabeth Rohrbaugh at The Woman’s Art Club of Hamilton, Stephani Zier at The Funky Sunshine, and Tasha Rupert at Rooted Essential Ohio.
Nancy Hopkins of Studio 414 provides studio space not only showcasing her own amazing ceramics and works of art, she also provides space for 6 other artist including Rarity works. Joining the Woman’s Art Club of Hamilton has been a great experience. This year we finished a gallery exhibit at the Fitton and Strauss galleries located in the Heart of Hamilton. Just two years old, this May 10th to be exact, this group of amazing artists has been a great inspiration to me.
The Funky Sunshine is where you can create unique tie dye apparel and participate in workshops taught by yours truly. Rooted Essential Ohio located in Yellow Springs OH, where you can purchase all your handmade organic soaps, lotions, and much more.
My family and life partner have always been a huge support in my life as I’ve come a long way in cultivating my creativity and skills. I’m forever grateful to my family for teaching me great work ethic following through with tenacity, grit, and perseverance. I’m blessed to have a loving partner who has been there though the challenges and the accomplishments every step of the way. By the grace of God, every door that has been closed new doors have been opened which has led me to where I am today. Always reminding myself to bloom where I am planted, keep faith in your purpose to help and serve in the only way you know how, and being a light to inspire others.
I’m thankful for this opportunity to share my story and I hope this is an inspiration to someone who is struggling with their path. We are beautifully and wonderfully made, each of us is special and have a unique skill to offer the world.
